A question/discussion about Gantz and the gantzers

I'm not sure if this has been discussed before, and I didn't see anything like this when i looked at the other posts, but here it goes.

Do you think there's a reason Gantz chooses the people he does to go into the room? Or is it just a random selection of people that he selects until there is an effective team of players? Is he just sadistic and chooses people unlikely to survive, but when things get more dire he chooses a really strong team, like the current one? I find this an interesting topic that I myself can't find an answer to. I look forward to discussing this matter.

A little bit of both. Before, I think he just wanted to recruit people who "might" have potential and mix it with people who would be excellent hunters such as Izumi.

There's no real indication of any sort of system, with the exception of the recruits from the Shinjuku massacre. He's taken kids, old ladies (and men), animals, and just generally random people. We don't have any real evidence of a method behind the madness.

The biggest mystery is why he puts animals in the game. A panda or a dog does nothing but provide comic-relief to the readers in most cases. I don't think Oku will ever explain the selection mainly because he can twist the story as much as he wants and could easily get away with it.

I do recall the animals serving the purpose of being the teams mascot, from old discussions anyway.

he doesn't choose the gantzers, the current strong team is the result of survival of the fittest, the ones who show potential, eventually will remain, and the others are just cannon fodder.

He does choose the Gantzers. Thats how they end up in the room in the first place. Once your in the roon, your a Gantzer. He just doesn't choose the survivors...thats up to them.

Oku chooses the survivors; end of story.
