I think he's a bad guy, causing the deaths of all those innocent aliens who were just minding their own business.

A normal human being's perspective. Gantz takes advantage of a human being's mental state, you either hunt and risk dying or do nothing and stay in the room forever and also risk dying.

Those are the wrong categories , you CAN'T rank Gantz as God or Bad at least until we know the true nature and purposes of Gantz ,he's not "God" to the Gantzers he only USES them, Gantz actually doesn't care at all if they die or not .

I wouldn't call him generous. He's more like a Drill Sergeant in the US Marine Corps: He kicks their asses and makes fun of them while they are with him, then sends them to do what he wants. Of course, he saves their lifes. Of course, he prevents them from dying in 'reality' (-> Yeah, I know, the game is reality too. I refer to the reality before being transfered to Gantz), but what for? He uses them to hunt aliens down. They are tools to him. None of them is important. And don't you forget: HE told Izumi to turn the streets into a shooting gallery. Izumi killed dozens of people because of HIS orders. Would you still call HIM generous? I'd prefer the term 'world saving lunatic'. He uses them 'for the greater good', but he USES them.

I think that it's a 1337 ball. And a 1337 ball is exempt from human concepts of good or evil. :3

I gotta wonder whether or not gantz is realing "saving" anyone's life in the first place. Remember that it's already been discussed in the manga that the people who are ressurected in the game are more like "copies" then the original.
This is especially true when you look at Kei, where gantz messed up and thought that she was dead when in truth her original copy was still amoungst the living
Overall though, I don't think Gantz is generous. Most of the time the people he brings into the room have no idea of the mission in the first place, and often re-die in new painful and terrifying ways. It's like reviving a person from a heart-attack, putting on a gorrila mask, and giving them another heart-attack.

^ That and the fact that he ordered Izumi to organize a public massacre in order to gain better "recruits".

I would just say that no one can understand Gantz, for all we know, Oku might not even know where he's going with the story yet.
