Don't count it out. Manual 1 was made and released before Oku decided to carry on the series and extend it onto where it is now. I think the popularity of the series changed his standing on Gantz.

Remember the long break he too to revise Gantz's direction? I'm not saying it will go onto Phase three. But, this phase will be just as, if not a little bit shorter than phase one if you ask me.

I'd rather have it end with Phase 2; like so many other manga out there, I think this one will become worn if it goes on too long. Besides, if his current pace is any indication, the series should last for another six years at least.

I'm too greedy I guess. Would be interesting to see Gantz past 50 volumes and still maintain the fan's attention. I just think the Gantz story has a lot of potential, there's a lot of mystery remaining, which could easily make multiple sub-plots to keep us entertained. Like Adonai has mentioned before, I too wonder if Oku can make the story interesting again if he killed off all characters and started fresh. That's my idea of a phase 3.

I like having lots of Gantz, but relatively few ideas can genuinely hold up under significant extension past their originally-conceived scope—I would hate to see Gantz become yet another work that has been ruined due to an attempt to keep it going while it's popular.
