Thread: Nishi vs. Izumi

I think Izumi gets too much credit. If you put him and kurono on an equal basis. Kurono post the Oni mission coming back and being part of the team, then Kurono beats him out right. Izumi's advantage is that he had memories of how things worked, and had more experience because he had made it to 100 before. If you put return of Izumi, versus return of Kurono, Kurono wins. He utilizes more weapons, and even came up with that Johnnie on the spot Anti-Vampire light gun. COuld Izumi have done that? Hell no. he would have been busy trying to fight everyone with the damn sword like the badass he thought he was.

Yeah, because Izumi's brother had told him how the vampires could be killed by sun light, right? Don't say what Izumi would do and would not do when he had no idea about it. He probably wouldn't have gotten that 'light gun' even if he had been told about it, but he could have killed all of the vampires who were sent after him if his girlfriend hadn't appeared when he was fighting blond vampire, something kurono's uber leet light gun didn't do.

Can't really compare the two situations.

They had different number of attackers, different attitude their attackers approached them with, different states of mind (seriously, Kuruno was missing a pretty large chunk of his memory at the time, and their characters are naturally very different), different weapons (it's debatable which is stronger, it's not just the sword and light, Izumi had the suit too, along with invisibility), the only real glaring similarity is that HS used a decoy both times, first Izumi's girlfriend, and then (probably a fake) Akira's head.

Yeah...it only has "vs." in the title...we're not exactly talking about kicking asses, just character preferences and depth.

I actually find that pretty doubtful. Host Samurai was pretty strong regardless, I think he would've defeated Izumi.

Yeah, he might have been crazy. Yeah, he is a damn killer. But hey, he had lost quite a bunch of his memory. Kurono ignored it once he was out of gantz, but if he had started doing questions to himself and hadn't been killed, he might have ended crazy too.

Your craziness may make you run around the town naked, become a killer, focus on a damn thought... prety much anything, even a combination of a bunch of things. We never met him before entering the gantz room the first time, you know, so you can't simply say he's the worst asshole ever xD

Craziness isn't character depth or sympathetic...Kurono was the stronger one for maintaining his sanity post-memory loss.
Izumi going "LOL I DONT REMEMBER ANYTHING IM CRAZY" doesn't make him an interesting character or give him dimension. It's easy to succumb to insanity or make a cliched insane evil character.
He was mentally weak, but not an interesting or human weakness...and obviously the murderous impulses were already in him...




I'm just saying that Kurono is the Shonen Main Character and is either equal to or a little greater than Izumi's strength. His sheer Shonen Emotion and abilities could help him beat the crap out of Izumi, especially if say Tae was on the line...But it never happened.
Hell, the minute Izumi was in front of that front door on the Kill Tae mission, he could've blasted his ass and at least damaged his suit. But he went "DERF" for a few seconds, which gave Izumi the opportunity to use his stupid Sword Erection.

But Gantz is a seinen ...

I actually find that pretty doubtful. Host Samurai was pretty strong regardless, I think he would've defeated Izumi.

Maybe, we'll have a better idea next chapter hopefully, each time we've actually seen him fight he seem to instinctively try to psychologically attack the enemy before the actual physical contact occurs, or use some sort of decoy, again as a sort of psychological attack.

When he fought Akira he made it a fight over the girl, and since Akira probably thought that HS meant that he was going to kill her, he probably got a lot more emotionally involved then he should.

When he fought Izumi, he aimed for his girlfriend, and we all know how that went.

And later, when he fought Kuruno, he spawned Akira's head...

In its target demographic, perhaps, but it certainly has Shonen elements and I was speaking of an Anime Archetype in general.

Izumi vs Nishi? I vote Izumi since Nishi still haven't proved anything to me (i hope his return will change that).

Izumi vs Kurono? Tie

Theres been quite a few Nishi threads as of late. Seems like everybody wants to know just who this sick little guy is. I don't know how he can possibly be developed. I don't see him changing his ways. Unless he starts acting like a team player.

I'm sorry, but it was already shown in his last mission that he does have humanity in him. The whole social darwinism act is probably just a protective covering or foolhardy weakness. He's just a little kid in the end.
He can easily be further developed, because he has human elements and weaknesses.
How was Izumi ever really developed? 99.9% of the time he was just the cliched I AM BAD AND STRONG AND EVIL guy.

I think the fact that nishi can no longer feel safe if he gets out of Gantz will more than likely be his mode of change. I honestly don't think he'll be the same after or during this mission.
