Well I was thinking a thread like this could lead to some rather interesting discussion, Everyone pick a Gantzer, list their pros and cons and rate them on a scale of 1 - 10.
I'm gonna start with Katou since i think he's one of the more controversial gantzers (maybe not as much after ch. 251) Pros: Katou has always been extremely brave, during the onion mission he tried to hold the big alien still so that Kurono could get away (or was it shoot him? to long ago to remember clearly), not knowing what would happen. In the buddha mission, after kurono, sei, hojo, sayaka, the sniper guy, kishimoto and a handful of others were defeated by the thousand arms statue he figured out a way to beat it, sure he died, but if it wasnt for him then kurono wouldnt have survived and who knows what would happen later on. In the osaka mission he's proven that being dead for half a year hasnt slowed him down any, in fact, he might have gotten better, he's fought with the Host Samurai, taken down an Alien about to eat that family, and now (spoiler for anyone who hasnt read ch. 251) He's beaten an alien that three expert Gantzers, all with the BFGs couldn't! Cons: Katou's ability is severely hindered due to the fact that he'll only use the capture gun. He'd have a lot easier time with some of these aliens if he'd just blow them to bits instead of fighting hand to hand with each and every one of them. Also, he wants to protect everyone, but the best he can do is 'go hide!' and then they get killed. If he wants them to put the suits on and really cares whether they live or die he should do something like threaten them while they're still in the room or something. Also, Kurono said he was trying to be like Katou, who, Ironically was trying to emulate himself, but i don't really think Katou was a competent leader, he had a hard time keeping control under pressure, and in the Buddha arc when he sent out two teams he had the two best gantzers (Kurono and himself) go one way, and hojo, sayaka, and a bunch of guys without suits go the other way, kind of setting them up for disaster, dont you think? Soooo To Sum It Up: Good: Strong, Brave, Smart Thinking when it comes to taking on aliens 1v1 Bad: Wont blow things up, Makes bad decisions as a leader, tries to hold order, but cant. So My Ratings: Leader: 6/10 Urmm....Not Leader: 8/10 Feel free to debate me on this, i mean, thats why i'm posting it, no? |

Nobody minds if I do two? Kaze, Muscle Rider, Country side general.
Pros: He's very powerful. He was able to match Kurono's power even without a suit when they had that fight. Fearless. I don't think he's afraid of anything unless it's... He's willing to fight with everyone and cooperate on teams. He's smart, he tries to figure out how to beat his opponents. Cons: He doesn't use the guns. He hasn't mastered how to use the gantz guns. If he did, I'm sure there would be more people saying that he is the best and not Kurono or Izumi. Too brave? He goes into battle without a weapon and not knowin what his enemies are capable of and that can lead to his downfall. He doesn't have great leadership skills. Rating: 8... 10 if he masters how to use the guns. Joichiro Nishi: My personal favorite. Pros: Acts mature for his age. Tries to keep a cool head. Understands his goals and objectives and does what he needs to do to accomplish them. He was able to survive by himself for a year. Made a strategy that seemed to be foolproof. He seems to be very intelligent. He wan't really reckless. He has alot of info about Gantz that we still don't know. Cons: He's a psycho. ^_^ He doesn't seem to have mastered all the weapons. That mission where he died (and constantly gets flamed for) the Gantz sword would've really helped him. He was unwilling to tell people what was goin on so that lead to his teammates dying. Doesn't seem to like to be on a team and cooperate. Doesn't seem to have respect for his teammates. I don't think he had the mentality to be ready for anything since he didn't seem to have some solution to his suit being broken and not being invisible. The last three lead to his downfall and possibly will again. Rating: 8, just because he seems really intelligent and he understands what he's doing and he was able to survive on his own as a kid for so long. Yes, I know he jumped in the damn water! |

We don't know how much of that year was spent with Izumi's team.
My guess is that Nishi was alone for 3-4 missions before Kurono and Katou arrived. Last edited by MGB; 06-15-2007 at 04:07 PM. |

Yeah, that was just my guess. He's still a mystery.

That isn't a con. I would even say that being a psycho is somewhat useful in Gantz.
As to his time without Izumi...remember, he said early on that it had been quite a while since anyone else had survived. He had been alone for a long time.

When did Nishi become trustworthy?

I'm not saying that he lied about how long he was a Gantzer.
What I am proposing is that he simply exaggerated how long it had been since someone returned alive with him. |
