I could see this series translating well to the big screen.
What do you think?

uhhh...well it could work out, I mean they did a great job on the first Battle Royale, so I don't see why they wouldn't do a good job on the GANTZ series. Although it would take a lot of CG.
Before I saw Ichi the Killer, I'd have said no, but now I know that level of gore isn't impossible.
It could be done, and I wouldn't be surprised if it were. However, they would probably have to do some major compression. It could turn out with just as many changes if not more as Battle Royale. BR was a good movie, but far too much was cut out.
Regardless, I'd love to see a Miike-directed Gantz film.
LOL wonder what it would b rated O.O hahah problem would b chosing which mission for a movie? i uno~ lol its gonna b hecka bloody ;p wonder how much special efx will b in there
I just lost several brain cells. Would you mind revising that so that it's easily readable?LOL wonder what it would b rated O.O hahah problem would b chosing which mission for a movie? i uno~ lol its gonna b hecka bloody ;p wonder how much special efx will b in there
You speak of the film as if it's a sure thing; it's not. This is speculation as to whether or not one would be possible.
As to the rating, Gantz would be a Japanese film. No American studio would greenlight a Gantz movie. I believe the highest Japanese rating is R-15, although it could be 18. I don't know much about the Japanese rating system. Gantz would have the highest non-porn rating available.
If I were making the movie, I would use the first three missions and end it after the Buddha massacre. However, rather than having Kurono shoot Gantz and walk away, I'd have Kurono shoot Gantz and then shoot himself. That would be the perfect way to end it, I think.

Hell NO! What about Sequel? Gantz 2, than Gantz 3![]()
Nah. I'd rather have one self-contained movie than a series of them. Besides, it just wouldn't work. People would see it as too formulaic.Originally Posted by Shadow
Although, I can see how it would play out...Movie 1 would go to the end of the Buddha mission, 2 would go until Tae's death, and 3...whatever.
I'd much rather have it end with Kurono dying right after the Buddha mission. It would work better on film than stretching things out. Besides, while it works in manga form, suddenly finding out a way to revive people is considered a cop out in film. It would be no good.
simply NO

If you're replying to me, why not?
Valid points. The dino thing is one of the big reasons I said it should end after the Buddha mission. The statues would be a stretch, but the Dinos would be laughable.
Also, the stuff that happens after the Buddha mission is a bit too much, even for Japanese film. The classroom massacre, for example. Kids can kill each other in Battle Royale, but an evil alien gruesomely slaughtering an entire classroom because a student refused to fight him? I doubt if that could be filmed. Also, the entire Oni mission is problematic. After all, we've got countless civilians being dismembered, decapitated, and otherwise killed.
Up until the classroom bit, however, Gantz was much cleaner. I think that much could be filmed without any changes, but any more would be pushing it.
