Why does nobody realise that Nishi was still joking about it being a new TV show?

Remember, when somebody asked Nishi whether it was some sort of reality TV show, he got a smirk on his face and played along as a joke. He was trying to trick them into thinking they really were selected to be a part of a TV show. Why? Because he obviously has no regard for human life, and it was just a game to him.

They might be confused because the anime fucks everything up by giving importance to the old lady in the beginning of the story.

I actually wouldn't say he had a complete disreguard for human life, more like he saw the usefulness in the strategy of using others to insure he got 100 points to leave. Its just his method and actions made him seem that way. After all he had been in Gantz for over a year so it's probable that he had seen his fair share of crap situations. Hell from the way he acted wen he got revived we can guess he had either died in Gantz before or had seen it happen before. Also when we saw him die on the tanaka alien mission we saw how much of a kid he was.

Oh and seto kun I don't think Berserk has changed it's original idea, more that it's going through the whole evolutional process of characters, plus I think all the things that have happened in the story have been too coincidental to not be planned out(hope that makes sense).

yes, they are being selected... selected by oku if that's what you mean

other than that, the only other possible selection process (that makes sense) is the timeframe bit
in that when the ball feels like giving out a mission (aka he's bored) he'll choose ppl that died near the time in which he will give out a mission (aka when he's bored)

and kurono's gone because oku feels like it
yes, oku hates kurono unless the fans threaten to stop buying the manga if he takes him out completely =D
cause the end of phase 1 seemed a bit screwed up to me, like a lot of stuff didn't need to happen
i think he's using it to test reactions o.o

or maybe i'm giving too much credit to oku and he's actually just ramming through this without thinking

it s hard to argue on this selection , i think that Oku had a vague idea when he started the manga about this one , the memory problem is clear , but a few times , he gave us clues to show that people were selected on purpose ( he gave Izumi that ball , telling him he needed strong people , moreover suit boxs seem to be already in the ball before people arrive/die , and the selection of the two vampires as gangzters ) or some other time randomly , i think Oku doesn t really care about respecting rules that were set up vaguely at the beginning of the manga , they were so unclear that he now can choose to change them whenever he wants to
