Zero One (Spoilers)

Hey Everyone,

I'm a huge gantz fan so I decided to read Oku's manga Zero One and I thought it was pretty awesome (though no where near as good as gantz). Has anyone else read it and if so what did you think?

To me it seemed as though the end was really rushed though. Does anyone know why? Was Oku forced to abandon the project or something because it seemed to me as if there was a lot left to tell (I mean the major tournament hadnt even started yet and the whole secret behind Zero One was just thrown randomly together in 4 pages). And also did anyone else think that the real ghost of Zero One looked almost identical to Kuruno in his gantz suit? Maybe he is Kuruno in the future or something and Zero One is a sequel to Gantz.

Anyway, tell me what you think :)

P.S. Sorry if this is in the wrong section but i thought i'd be more likely to get a reply here than in the Misc Section and Me-Teru no Kimochi is discussed here so i thought what the hell ;)

Well, I got all 3 manga, but just because I´m a big Gantz fan. I did not really like it. Why? The story is boring, the art is not amazing and I found it kinda stupid. But the point that the ghost of Zero One exactly looks like Kuruno is a good point. I guess I remember that there was an extra in a Gantz volume where a suit was drawn that looked like the one out of Zero One. Maybe this is the powerful weapon. But I don´t have the extras anymore, because I downloaded Gantz from another side. Maybe someone knows which drawings I mean and can post them here? That would be nice.

Ah i know the drawing you are refering to. It was in the sketches at the end of one of the volumes. Ill look for it and post it. There is also a Zero-One figurine in Kuronos room.

I read this up to volume two. Ill look for the rest now and download it. But from what i do remember the whole thing was lacking 'real' emotion.

Can you give me a link to a site that i can download Zero One from. Im a ggantz fan so i want t o see if Zero Ones is good.

I think since this was Oku's first major manga opportunity he was under alot of pressure when making it and it shows. The story definitely lacks any real motivation behind each MBZ fight and they therefore became boring and uninteresting. Though i'll admit they were pretty crap (especially the 3D fighting scenes, i mean, wtf was he thinking) I think this manga had alot of potential. If Oku had focused more on the story, character development and pacing he could have made the MBZ fights much more intense by increasing the stakes of losing. Also, I definitely think he was planning to make this manga much longer and as a result it suffered greatly. He introduced way too many characters way too soon and as a result most of them are way underdeveloped although some of them, like the boxer and the old man, were cool and had alot of potential. On the last volume (after he either decided to abandon it or was forced to) he focused much more on Nero and Alois instead of the fighting and I think it showed that this manga had the potential to be up to the standards of gantz.

Also, doesn't anyone else think this work shows alot of Oku's ideas for gantz beginning to form? I mean, when players go into MBZ they get many of the features a gantz suit gives. The gantz suit turns a normal person like the old man into a super strong fighter on par with everyone else. So does MBZ. They are both also fights to the death (kinda). Maybe Oku liked where the manga was headed but decided that more motivation was needed behind each fight and what better motivation than a fight for survival like the ones we see in gantz? And hence gantz may be a sort of evolved form of Zero One.

And as to the art, Zero One's art is definitely better than Me-Teru no Kimochi and Hen and sometimes even up to gantz's standard. (Not including crappy 3D)

I can see the resemblance between the suits as little as it is probably just the origial inspiration for the gantz suit
as for Zero One itself it wasnt as bad as I originaly thought but alot of characters where introduced and didn't have time to evolve but I havent gotten too far in the manga kinda gave up on it...

I have alot of oku news to catch up on. XD
