The ending of the anime did NOT suck

Gantz is one of my favorite anime. Don't get me wrong, the manga owns it, but I did see the anime first. I read all the negative things said about the anime, in particular the ending. I believe that manga and anime should be judged on their own, not in relation to each other. To get to the point, I liked the ending of the anime. It was something different, and extremely open to interpretation. Adhering to the manga storyline is good, but I like to see something new in the anime version of a manga. So what do ya'll think?

I saw the anime first too, but the end suck. The anime was great until the end of the Buddha mission.

yes it DID suck. I did watch the anime BEFORE i read the manga. I was really really pissed off at the ending of Gantz. Some people told me about the manga and i started reading it back in Dec. 05. I was like holy shit this owns. See the anime focused on this moral they were trying to teach. I think its something like you can't achieve anything in life without the help of others. Some bullshit like that...you get my point.

It's funny because a lot of the people that I ask about this say that they didn't like the ending because they expected all the shit with Gantz to be explained and all that. That's usually number one. I definitely expected to hate the anime ending what with all I read, but reading about it and seeing it are two different things. I really appreciate the fact that the writers tried to do something so existential with Gantz and really turn it into something different. Talking specifically about the ending, I liked the conflict which arose from making Kurono the final target, and everyone taking sides (it reminded me of the Tae mission in the manga, perhaps that was the inspiration for the Kurono alien). The mental breakdown of the characters, along with the weapons and suits malfunctioning was a perfect indicator of Kurono's mental state (going with the theory that the ending means that all the stuff with Gantz was a hallucination Kei had). And the very end, with Kei running from the train and remembering all the stuff that's happened was a fitting end for the show.

I didn't like the ending of the anime much. It' because of that I sought out the manga and became a member here.
Though the ending of the anime was good, the only reason I didn't like it was because it felt some what forced. Also, I remembering hearing that the anime came out before the manga. Is this true? If so maybe the creator (i'll be dammed if I can remember his name) didn't think it would generate such a fan base, and ended it before it lost the popularity it already had. If the anime didn't coem out first.....well, I just made an ass out of myself :\.

I didn't liked the ending. as Hyades said, it was so forced...
I don't know, it was like Lain landing on GantZ, it wasn't that bad the idea of the Kurono alien, but everything else in it was so forced... the teacher, the psychopaths, i dunno...

Yeah, during the Buddha arc they took a page out of the Berserk anime and showed stills for no other reason than it being a cost cutting move.
I kinda see how people would say the end felt forced, but any ending would've felt forced to Gantz, I think. The teacher and the psychos and the shopkeeper all made sense in Gantz because they were present in the beginning of the anime when Kei was hit by the train, so it kinda brought things full circle in Kei's mind.
