Kiriyama lost his conscience. He couldn't tell right from wrong. Kiriyama's mental condition renders him incapable of knowing what to do in a situation like Battle Royale. Were he to be sent before a jury, for example, he would be given a guilty of Not Guilty by Reason of Mental Defect.
