Thread: xenogears

best game ever. discuss.

anyone up for an in-depth philosophic discuss of the greater significance of some of the issues raised by this game as they relate to thinkers like Nietzche, Platonists, or Gnostics? If not, im up for some general commentary as well. Bashing the game is accepted, but ill try my damnest to shoot you down.

xenogears was one of the best games ive ever played. sadly it was too short at only 2 discs and very rushed near the end. its been a while since ive played the game, and i didnt get the whole story. so miang was created by the ship to take care of the only suriviving kid? also the descendants of that kid was fei?

Best game ever if you consider the date it was released and developed and a deep story.

They took biology lessons and influence of asian religions (western influence as well), was obvious.

Totally forgot the cool mecha design ^^ (CD II was disappointing though.)

I liked it a first but was dissappointed towards the end. Disc 2 was a total cop-out. Rather than actually going through the story, the just summarize it in boring narritives. People start getting crazy-powerful too. And i wanted to shoot chu-chu in the face! He was a retarded piece of shit, dont "CHU" think? Valkeryie Profile has a similar but better combat system. But as an RPG taking intelligent philosophy from well-known thinkers and integrating into the story in a fairly seemless way, it is the best. bar none.

disc two was primarily the result of a lack in funding, rather than a cop out. it was entirely unintentional. personally, i enjoyed the cut scenes, and I respect your opinion. and chu chu was hardly a central character, so...

i also didnt think the game was all that short. I was glad it didnt fall into the trap of running too long without sacrficing a legit story.

in response to this, the influence was almost entirely western, rather than eastern. I would be curious to see what relations you found to asian thought.

ok. wait. xenogears can't be the best game. the game starts so damn good and develops into a complicated and huge story (i loved it, i was surprised a lot of times) wich......really falls in disc two. it was an awful sensation (i still remember) to know that "that was it". that was the second disc of a game so grand in disc one. when i knew that, i played the end, and that was it. i never touched it again. to begin in the marvelous disc one...and to end in the dissapointing disc two...it's just not worth it. because of this (i'm sure a bunch of people felt the same) it cannot be the best game.
personally i say final fantasy tactics is the best game to date. a very good story, great gameplay, lots of secrets...i can't get tired of it.

It's my favorite rpg tied with FF7 (although it's a shame that Square had to rush disk2 because of FF.

The super cool mecha, awesome gameplay, n a realy complicated story that keep making u pondering what gonna happen next.

Xenosaga which supposed to be its sequel made me realy disappointed with its gameplay and story. It just sucks.

storyline is one of the best i've ever seen. I liked the combat system alot, sure beats that FF usual "attack" system. the gears were awesome.

the saddest thing about it was that it got withdrawn from stores due to the religion heresy crap, so less people know about it :/

sick game tho, it rates as one of my top games.
