Thread: Chess tournament.

Considering the relative success of the chess thread, I'd like to have a tournament. Before I go on, a few things should be noted.
This thread will not have any chess games going on. This thread is only for sign-up and results of games. The actually games will actually be in the chess thread, or via pm.
The tournament will be organized in an elimination style. The winner plays against the entire community, where everyone puts input in the chess thread. (One person only, chosen by everyone, makes the moves, to prevent confusion, everyone else helps/gives ideas/etc. 24 hours per move or so to give input).
Regarding the actual games:
1. You can use the method we use in the chess thread, or if both parties agree on a different method, then they can do that.

2. To prevent confusion when you use the chess image generator, make sure you, always quote the person before you (easier visually, and so that you can use the "threaded view function" to find your opponents moves a bit faster), bold when you check(you have to say "check) just to reduce clutter, make sure the moves you make are legal, agree upon a time limit, so that one of the two players get disqualified if they don't show up and to never comment on any other games/give ideas or warnings.

3. After the game is over the result of the winner is to be pm'd to me. If it is a draw, or a stalemate then you have to rematch.

One more thing, if you want to sign up;
please pm me, don't post here. I'd like to reduce the clutter of having to start a new sign up thread. Also, post your time zone so that I can make people close to each other play together. The tournament will take some time to start, the people playing in the chess thread must at least finish their games. I think that's about it. If there's anything I forgot/you want to ask about, please add it in.

One more other thing: People who are new to chess/aren't that good in chess, don't get discouraged and join.

Perhaps we could discuss their moves here so that we don't make the tourny thread too messy. Heh... if we all learned the chess algebraic notations, we probably wouldn't need to quote as much and would know which move it's in. Would make for easier discussion as well.

And yeah, don't worry if you're new to chess. I only started sometime last month, so you won't be the only newbie there.

^ You've only played chess for a month? You must have been playing on a near-daily basis.
Algebraic chess notations are useful, and they will save me a lot of time loading images on the thread. :P They're also good for reviewing games.

Anyways, so far, only 3 people joined the tournament, with me thats four. I'd like to have at least 8 people playing, or 16 if possible. Tournament starts as soon as we get 8 people (I doubt we'll get 16).

Well, before I just knew as much as an amateur (only knowing how each piece moves). I only started to learn about castling and en passants and those sorts last month.

We still need four more for the tournament.

Lets finish the games in progress first, I have an idea.

I thought I mentioned that we'll finish the games in progress first, but it looks like I didn't. Anyways, the tourney will start after everyone finishes their games. Hopefully we'll have more people joining by then.

I'll join but only under one condition.

If you don't have enough players.

Eg - you have 7 players and you need 8 to round it off or 15 players and you need me to round off 16.

If you already have 8 players or 16 players, I don't want to be the extra player lol.

I personally like to have all the chess games be in seperate threads, so people can see the move by move game instead of all the clutter of the other games getting mixed in.

People may comment on the games as long as it doesn't influence the players too much I guess or we could create a seperate spoiler thread where non-players can discuss the strategies of the different games on how a particular move could've turned the tide of a game. etc...

The names of the seperate chess threads could be like StealDragon vs Skrymir , Bipolargraph can start the threads and flip a coin as to see whether someome plays as white or black and the game starts from there.

If there are a odd number of players, the extra player could be a seeded player who will play the winner of StealDragon vs Skrymir for example.

The Final round could probably be called Winner vs Community

Will there be a game for 3rd place after the semi-finals?

So... do we just ignore that remaining match since one of the players is MIA?
