Itīs kind of hard to categorise games in genres, because they have elements of other genres.

Xenogears for example, could be considered an action rpg because of the battle system just like the Tales of series ( they have even more "action".)
    It its still round based.

Agreed. Categoriseing is hard. Haven't played the Tales of series either. I rarely buy a game I haven't played (unless I have heard really great things about it from several sources), and all Blockbuster usually gets in is the newest hack and slash games (which I do like, but thats not the point) and 5000 copies of the new Madden. Funniest shit, my local BB got the stratigy guides for Star Ocean: Till the End of Time without having the game available, and Xenosaga II without ever have had the first one. One guy there I know is a big gamer, so I asked "WTF?". His reply was along the lines of "I have no idea. I'm pissed to. This shit is stupid."

Anyway, there is not enough respect for the stratigy and RPG games. Pisses me off.

Xenogears I just catigorize as freak'n awsome.

I just imported Xenosaga I and II from canada and Disgaea (a strategy RPG in retro look but a really good game. (im from germany and we have Pal Tv standart in europa.)

I would recommend Shin Megami Tensei, really great series, but TOTALLY different from any other RPGs. (all episodes before SMT: Nocturne or Lucifers call how it is called in europe, were japan only.)

Oh, forget Persona and Persona: Innocent Sin on ps1 in US.

I want to play the Digital Devil Saga like you won't believe. Having a hell of a time getting ahold of it. Pisses me off. Glad to hear some praise for it (I wanted it just on the premise of the game), won't feel too bad when I finnaly see it and buy it on impluse without having ever played it.

I would start with Nocturne even though it has nothing to do with Saga 1 and II storywise.

But be warned, the difficulty is a little highter than other games, especially when you keep monsters in your team you really like for a long time and level them, like you would do in other games.

Even though you level them, I would recommand to fuse them to stronger monsters.
    Whats really great:

Dante from Devil May Cry is a starquest in Nocturne (I wonīt tell much why he is in it.)
And the dialoques are sometimes hilarious.
A really great game if youre tired of thousand of sequels without improvements and want to find something different. ( It got really great feedback.)

I don't care if a game is hard or not, as long as the stoyline and gameplay can hold my interest. If I ever see them, I'll pick them up. Thanks for the input.

You mean Phantom Brave and Makai Kingdom.

    Just to add information:

Disgaea 2 has been announced, plattform is unknown but I think assuming it comes for PS2 isnīt too farfetched.
