for me the best story is the one of Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together
second is front mission 3 I guess (not original but well told)
Other good stories are found in some Final Fantasys, the The Legend of Kyrandia row, the Xenosaga/Xenogears games, Arcanum, Baldurs Gate, the Ultima row, the chrono row (still have to finish radical Dreamers) and other well known rpg“s/adventures
I like the "short story puzzleplot" of Valkyrie Profile as well.

Adell is in Cursed Memories not Hour of Darkness xD, Cursed Memories and Absence of Justice weren't as funny or interesting for me as Hour of Darkness. Suddenly though I have the urge to go play Phantom Brave though... whatever after Hour of Darkness every NIS game I play is for gameplay quality now more than story.

He is a Boss in the PSP version of D1. Him, him+Rozalin and Zetta are new bosses, the Etna mode (Etna as main char, no Laharl) is new as well. One of the new nameles bosses has the Apocalypse Axe.
