Dead Space was more of a "monster-jumps-out-from corner" kinda scary...not really atmospheric at all. F.E.A.R. was set mostly in boring ol' hallways so it was rather bland. Doom 3 without the flashlight mod is better than those two games, imo.
Thoughts on Left 4 Dead though? One of my female friends wouldn't play it after she saw the Boomer and the Witch >.>
