The thing about Far Cry 2 that irritates me is the lack of a faster way to travel.

There are bus stops which will take you across the map, but they are so few and far away that they're useless. I agree there needs to be a faster way to travel, especially when I'm at the South-West border of the map and the gun merchant gives me a mission at the North-East border or something similar...

I like to think that is part of the design (getting you to think ahead and plan your route and points of ingress, remember you don't have to follow the roads, train tracks are great for getting places fast and avoiding most patrols, rivers are really usefull too if you are cautious) or maybe I'm just kidding myself. My main gripe about travel is too many check points and mounted patrols and the fact that they are all hostile, regardless of which side you choose.

The main thing I like about the game is the use of tactics, pretty much every mission involves going somewhere and getting into a gun fight, but rather than going in through the main entrance and shooting up everything, I take out my map and plan my attack.

The mission to assasinate Kouassi was fun, instead of driving right upto the rally, I drove about halfway between the gun shop and the target, got out and walked the rest, the reason for this is that you have to pass between two check points. In a vehicle this would cause trouble, but on foot no one noticed, I then crouch walked to about 200 metres west of Kouassi and crouched on top of a small mound, from there I sniped him with my dart rifle just as he wrapped up his speech, I then legged it west to the small lake, followed the bank around to the south while hiding from a patroling boat and then ran back to the gunshop where I got a jeep and drove south. Mission complete with only a single round (granted its an easy mission, but it was good fun) and a bit of fore planning. Stealthy amphibious assaults are fun too.

Remeber, the dart rifle is your best friend.

The thing that impresses me the most is how accurate (minus guns and stuff) Africa is depicted.
Granted, I've only been to the western part of the continent and it can be assumed that there actually are civil conflicts in various villages in central Africa, but the environments (both in and outside settlements) are spot on.

I've never been to Africa and I suspect that such diverse enviroments would not really be so close together, but they are stunning and have a great deal of atmosphere and you really do feel like you are in another country rather than in just some game world made up for the sake of giving you somewhere to shoot your enemies. Riding the river from Pala up to Gakumba's retreat in the mountain was beautiful and chasing down the wildlife in a buggy on the plains is a laugh.

    Guards posts pisses me off.
When I go to kill someone/do some mission and kill all guys on guard post, then when Im coming back in a hour or so there are new guards already. I mean cmon atleast it should be like 1 a day for guard post replacements and not like "if I go xyz meters from the post and then return its already lively and all".
And yeah sniping is cool sometimes its cool to go inside enemy campus and take hostage or get information. But dunno about dart rifle Im using my svd and Im waiting for the next sniper rifle but dunno why I dont have any more weapon missions for desert eagle and new sniper rifle. Also stealth killing should be stealth rather than if I kill someone with silenced makarov (1 hit headshot) or with machete then there is like 5 enemys runing to my ass even though they shouldnt hear silenced gunshot or machete cuting trough flesh ...

Last week I bought FC2, Fable 2, and Fallout 3. I was really looking forward for Far Cry, I loved the first game atleast till the mutants (or w/e) came. Then it went from AWESOME to SHITE. Then we had Crysis, again a very beautiful game but instead of mutants there were aliens. So Crysis= SHITE. And in Far Cry 2 they said theres not gonna be no mutants or aliens. So the game has to be epic right. Open world and everything.

So I tried the game and was really impressed in the begining riding around in the cab and just look outside, the game was stunning. And it was fun playing the controls were great and combat was amazing. I mean your gun gets rusty and fucked up after being used for some time. Then out of nowhere in the middle of a fight. It jams on you so you have to find cover real quick and try to fix it. Or just throw it away and pick up a new one. All that was cool. What I liked most was that you could see everything from your own eyes all the time, the camera was not flying over your head in cutscenes and shit. And it was really cool performing surgery on yourself. And sliding back in your car to get up to the mounted gun, you could see your legs moving then and stuff. All that was really cool, hell you even had to fix your car when it broke down. However it was boring that you repaired it the same way all the time. However when you were driving your legs were always still and your arms only moved with the steering wheel. There were no animations for shifting gears, breaking and using the hand break which was a lettdown for me. And for the actual gameplay. There was this endless driving all the time and you had to follow the roads so you felt kinda trapped all the time. Driving untill you hit an enemy outpost. Take all enemies out, drive, another outpost, drive, reach destination, kill target, drive back, another outpost full of enemies, drive get another mission, the same thing over again. It got boring really fast and I stopped playing like halfthrough the game. Dunno if im going to finnish it. And oh I forgot to mention the laughable enemy AI haha
