I like first person views in games other than first person shooters, to me it puts you in the shoes of the protagonist rather than just controlling them like a puppet. Take the Xbox game "Breakdown" for example. Unfortunately the game was rather crap, but the things it did with the first person perspective were WONDEROUS. I just wish a development studio that was actually good at making games would follow their example.
Actually, Dark Messiah was inspired by it a bit it seems, but the kicking was just downright awkward, not to mention way overused. One review site (can't remember which one) dubbed it "Sir Kicksalot Deathboot in the land of the conspicuously placed spike racks".
