    Default Advance Wars

I remember my friend playing thi way back when GBA was new and told me it was fun. since i didn't have the game (nor a gameboy advance), i paid no attention to him.

many years later, now that i have a NDS and a R4, i started playing Days of Ruin. anyone else playing this game ? am i just stupid or are missions supposed to take more than an hour to figure out and complete =\

Advance War was the shit. The DS ruined it.

That's what the Wars games are all about. Strategy games like this take more than thirty minutes of effort to progress in.

Whatever helps you sleep at night.

I recently purchased "Days of Ruin" and after getting about 15 missions into it I'm not sure I can grasp the words at the moment to describe how much better this is than the last three Advanced Wars games. The story isn't even toned down to avoid letting characters die. Lin is one hell of a badass.

i'm currently at mission 22 so far. lin gets more badass later on =)

i skipped all the trial missions though. man, dusters and copters are so worthless =\ bombers and fighters are good, but expensive. so far, water units are my fav - landers let you ferry *any* *two* ground units, subs freeze up enemy units when they run into them (plus rapes most boats), and carriers = sea planes = deadly.

not to mention battleship + cruisers is an insane combination.

ps. rigs are awesome. you won't see the incredible power of refueling until later on though.

I played the first one, of the English GBA releases, on my laptop for quite some time - until the part where you change over to a completely different team.

I always wanted to buy one of them, but I never got around to it. You wouldn't happen to have a suggestion for which one you'd go with if you had to chose only one, would you?

I personally liked the first one better. The one that was just called "Fire Emblem"

I don't remember the part that you're talking about in either game. Do you remember the exact title?

I think it's when you switch over to Hector.

I played all 3 GBA Fire Emblems, loved every one of them. Fire Emblem 6 in hard was... hard, more with Roy being shitty until the late chapters.

If you want a suggestion... Fire Emblem 7 is longer than 8, but 8 has more sidequests and special dungeons, so its easier to level up all your characters. If you want a longer game get 7, otherwise go with 8 as i find both stories pretty good. If you know japanese get 6.

More on topic, i've only played the first Advance Wars, i liked it.

Advance Wars missions have always taken awhile, the later ones at least. It requires more strategy than most people give it credit for.

@Terasiel: The original one had the most balanced units, imo. I played the 3rd one for a bit but didn't like it. The 2nd one I own and...it's decent, but the Neotank practically makes most other land units obsolete (in Vs. mode, it's somewhat broken). Haven't played the latest one yet, but from what I hear it takes a darker turn than the previous games, and isn't set in the same universe either.
