^ gonna try that.
and also...i'm annoyed as <insert bad word here> at secret mission 3. WTF? Increase ur style bar without attacking?! I have the table hopper move, and i do it when they attack me, so i dodge their attacks...but no style bar goes up! I mean i can do it, but eventually i'll screw up and take some huge damage, and eventually die. Arghhh, any help anyone?
edit: nevermind, i kind of cheated and looked online on how to do it. Guess i can't yet, since i dont have a certain ability yet. /dunno
Trust me, some of them are horrible. I remember getting one mission as Nero where you had to Royal Block 5 attacks in a row. But I kept thinking, "how the hell does Nero do that?!"
Eventually I gave up because it's impossible. They shouldn't let you do secret missions you can't complete, though I guess they were just being lazy.
Also, the cut scene you get when you obtain Lucifer is the best thing I've seen.
im on chapter 11 now! using dante. w00t....
though i got to admit...i miss using nero's arm.
yeah, having not played DMC3 for a while I had forgotten how to bridge gaps and close the distance. But after a while it all comes back to you. A necessity is upgrading Swordmaster to max, as that alone easily get's your stylish rating to SSS without much trouble. though I commonly switch from SM to Trickster as I love using that to close the distance.
The Devil Bringer was the best gameplay addition in DMC4. It really spiced up the gameplay and opened up the way for more devastating combos, e.g. after a combo which knocks your opponent back you can just snatch them back and continue. I especially love the different throws and slams you can do aswell. Even though Dante was still a lot more powerful than Nero, I also missed being able to use the Devil Bringer.
I don't like that Nero is stuck with using just one weapon the entire time though. If I could have a combination of Nero's Devil Bringer and Gilgamesh I would probably cream my pants. Gilgamesh is the best incarnation of the gauntlets by far.
Yeah, I love the Gilgamesh. I think Nero would have been a fantastic character if they allowed him to switch his main weapon. At least one different weapon would have been great (there was an unused button after all) and allowed for a whole great deal more in terms of combos.
After all, Sword and Gauntlet combo was my favourite in DMC3.
I just got Gilgamesh on Dante...
and I have to say that Nero is truthfully the newbiest character of DMC to date [ignoring the second one, of course]. He has a stupid built-in dodge/combo-continuer/distance-closer which was fun [of course] until you get Dante and realize just how pathetic you are. As a character, he's alright [minus being somewhat of a Dante clone].
Nero <<< Dante. Dante you at least need to micro with a little [or at least get used to moving your fingers everywhere to change equipment/styles]... Nero's just like... button-mash and you're fine.
@MadDogMike: No way in hell Devil Bringer's the best gameplay thing... that would totally be the instant style-switching.
Only downside to styles is that you can buy them now rather than actually use them to get better.
^ oh that's gay. I already read on Gamespot that the game is easier than DMC3, which sucks cause that's what I loved about the game. Making DMC4 easier was a bad decision IMO. DMC3 kinda competed with Ninja Gaiden, not really but almost...maybe..Now there's no chance it's even close.
I suppose that's because I mostly stick to Swordmaster/Dark Slayer style. I don't use Royal Guard because it slows down the gameplay too much for my liking, I don't use my guns for much other than crowd control with Coyote-A, and I don't see the point of using Trickster for dodging when there are other ways to dodge.

However the payout is that you'll be invincible and nothing will ever touch you, not to mention Royal Block and Royal Release gives you crazy amounts of style points.
Guns for damage is kind of what it's always been, crowd control and some style upkeep when you're at a distance. However, with Pandora you can do some real crazy damage in Gunslinger mode (not counting the missile battery, that sucks) and in general with the laser cannon. That's about all I like it for.
Swordmaster/Darkslayer are good for obvious reasons. The only gripe I have with this game is after playing with Nero playing Dante becomes weird, then after playing Dante playing Nero becomes weird. But I'd rather play Dante constantly than Nero.
