with those options, you might have to spend over 4k. I'm talking about M9750.
A top of line desktop that would last some years atleast is in that price range.
Maybe even more, you can easily reach the 6k mark.

But Jakko got the biggest problem, even w/o price there is heat, battery life, weight.

In the end you end up with something that is just hard to impossible to upgrade. That will not last long.

Numpad exists on 17" screen laptops, check out the HP Pavilion dv9312tx. And this laptop rocks for gaming. I own one and its running bioshock, splinter cell 4 and rainbow six vegas on high with very good framerates. Steam-based games like Dark Messiah of might and magic run perfectly at high settings also. Just make sure you have 2GB of RAM if you're running under vista as anything less would make it utterly worthless for gaming, too much API overhead. The investment is definitely worth it.

While they do run extremely well on any half-modern computer, it's only because the engine is missing out on quite a few current generation special effects, and doesn't even come close to making full use of the capabilities of any video card released in the last 2 years. I'm not saying the engine doesn't look good, but it's sorely lacking in a few key places (still uses lightmaps instead of projection/stencil shadows, no noticeable bump/normal/displacement/parallax mapping, no true HDR, etc).

So I'll guess you'll have to punch me for thinking that HL2 is still the best looking game in the universe?

    Nah, but Jyuu will.

Like I said, I still think it manages to look really good despite what it can't do. Part of it is because it's aimed at more realistic graphics instead of just shiny/pretty graphics (like every iD Tech4 engine game out there). I'm not such a graphics whore, if a game can manage to provide good atmosphere that's enough for me.

^ not the best looking game, but it looks good (at least better than newer games) in 60% of the gamers community since it doesn't require ultra-expensive equipment. Ok maybe not 60%, I really don't know how much.
