No, you can build a decent rig with 700 bucks. The parts would probably be from the last generation, but it would still kick ass.

2k and up? Well, I'm not that wasteful.

Hmm one problem with building your own rig has always been warranties, I was thinking about building my own computer more than once, studied up on it. And I found out, honestly it's not a great idea you don't always save that much unless you buy from bargain bins which might take a while to find all the parts cheap. I'll just buy one of the top of the line Alien Computers for gaming and Anime, and then have a good 1ghz or so computer for word processing. Aswell as other random tasks.

You know when you buy parts individually, you have a warranty on those individual parts?

And a top of the line Alienware is more then $4500. That's just excessive. What's the extra two thousand dollars for? The shiny case? :P

I'm satisfied with my current rig. I'm running Battlefield 2 and it's using about 800MB of RAM and I still have about 820MB free.

2GB of RAM is really useful. =D

I've got 2 high end gaming computers up with video cards that cost about half of what the computers did before upgrading...but I'm going to buy all of the new generation systems the day they come out. I've already pre-ordered the Xbox 360
