Thread: Web browsing with the consoles

I was wonder what people's experiences are of using game consoles to browse pages. Why? I was thinking of programming my site to use the features of each console's browser to it's fullest.

Not to mention to program a webbase anime game.

I guess I should start with a poll on who actually browsing with games consoles.

You should add mobile device.

I have only tried the PS3, which worked fine :P

Browsing on anything but a PC is stupid.
PSP: Slow and lacks features.
DS: Low resolution and slow.
Wii: Low resolution.
PS3: Unless you are on 1080p on a 60", it's going to look terrible.
X360: No browser, fool. Why include it on the list?
Pocket PCs and smartphones: No one browses with such devices. Their browsers are mostly to read the news, check email and small tasks like that.


So what do I think? It's a retarded poll.

Not really, I think you hit the nail on the head for the console browsing faults.
I do believe there is a third party browsers available for Xbox. As for not including webphones on the list, we're talking traditional gaming devices... I'm pushing it with PocketPC/palm,blackberry.

Of course the poll is a means of collecting data and thoughts before wasting my time trying to program for such devices.

I programmed a WAP2 version of my site which I'm pretty well the only user who knows about it other than posting on a few forums. The real problem is companies charge people by the Kb for access and limit where people can surf. Any wonder WHY it hasn't caught on?

Frankly until the game consoles open up how to program for their browser and promote people to make pages for it will it take hold. I'm just trying to get a feel of the land and personal gripes of actual users of the browsers and do something about it.

@Jyuu On the PS3 even if you are on a small TV it doesn't look that bad, but yeah for you to appreciate the web on a console the tv should be pretty big.

What is it on a small TV? 640x480? Most websites nowadays go beyond that.

I wish the 360 had a browser.
What M$ should do is bundle a 360 browser program with a 360 branded keyboard and mouse, that'd be great.

I don't think I'll ever web browse on a console. Not now anyway. I wish phones were more sophisticated because true internet on a phone would kick ass.

browsing on the ps3 is alright....but i only do it when i'm super lazy and dont feel like grabbing my notebook or going upstairs to the pc. Other than that, pc ftw.
