    ... he said only the displayed pixels are kept in RAM (rather than the whole images), but this would make both the program lag while zooming out and anyway it should be the GPU which should recalculate what should be displayed on screen, and keep the info in its own memory (not the RAM)...

    Why don't u just try it out and see for you self, theres a demo on the link Jyuu provided

    Operating System: Only Windows XP SP2 and Windows Vista RC1 or later are supported at this time.

    => won't work on my laptop with ubuntu

    I guess I should have explained it more clearly, or maybe I understood it wrong myself. Anyway, the point is its only resizing what it needs to, rather than all the images.
