For me, the Wii IS a next-gen, simply by taking it's hardware (the control) into account. It HAS the capabilities to make really good games, it's up to Nintendo if they exploit it as they should.

Nothing next gen about the wii remote. That technology has been around for some time.

We will have to see if the wii mote infacts replace the standard controller pad.

I know it's been around, but they actually used it and tried something else, unlike sony and microsoft.

Sony took the risk with the high cost of the PS3, and it didn't turn that well.
Nintendo took the risk with that controller, it has turned ok for them.

While i think the PS3 and Xbox 360 are indeed good, they are just "the next console" for their companies, the Wii is something more than that simply by trying something a bit out of the ordinary.

^A next gen system that can't even play regular dvds isn't all THAT next gen. The Wii feels like a cheap 10 minutes of fun, then you just move on. And I know its just repeating what neekz0009 said but it's true, since the technology has already been out its not new. And if anything the biggest risk Nintendo took was with the first DS compared to the Wii since there was almost no need for them to take a risk and make the DS since the Gameboy SP were still doing so good in sales.

I just want to remind you, consoles are made for videogames.
    DVD's an extra.

    It's about next-gen CONSOLES, not next-gen technology.
    Greetings earthlings.

^ true thats whats all next-gen consoles are about, but times has changed ever since DvD's appered for Ps2, and since that everyone seems to want more than just gaming technology.
it seems dvd's are like a basic thing to have now for a gaming system.( tho people who have just a dvd player are not really complaining about this)

Everyone just going to keep saying those things about Wii until they see something that can prove them wrong.
and Its going to take Ps3 a long while before its real sales start coming in.(cause even all those things it has, it still hasnt proven enough people to buy it.)

Well Sony does have the Sixaxis which uses some of the same tech. I am sure you are ecstatic that Nintendo is really making incredible sales but I fail to see how this plays out well for the more serious gamers. Party games and incredibly simple and at times boring mini games are far from what real gamers want and desire. While I am aware of paper mario 2 and Zelda TP these are games better fit for the standered GC controller so it might as well have been left for that console. The Fact that Super Smash Bros will be focused on the classic controller pad speaks poorly of the decision of the wii mote. So far every game I have seen for the Wii is shallow and simplistic if that is what gamers want today I rather stick to PC,360, and PS3.

Give me games and not great NPD Numbers(sales report).

dvd's are extra? Dvds are the norm right now and reality will become obsolete in say 3-5 years. Honestly, video games are demanding more than the 9 gigs of a dual layer dvd, all movies coming out now are in HD. Why are these consoles called nex-gen consoles? Because it's suppose to have new generation technology.

What makes the Wii next-gen when it has most of it's technology from 5 year's ago? Both ps3 and 360 have the nex-gen graphics, and newer technology. Well the ps3 does have the most new technology, the cell broadband and blu-ray player, both of these two are what you call "nex-gen."

and like vphamv said, the wii is 10 minutes of fun....afterwards its so repetitive. It's mini games galore and yes I do in fact have a Wii. Did i buy it? No, my brother did. Have i tried it? Yeah i have.

    +1

it's stupid to brand a console as next gen only because it has expensive technology in it... and they are not supposed to be media centers (at most i can see it as an option... and a useless (yet expensive) one for people who already have got a computer)

Also, why buy a "console" that is a pale copy of your computer ? i would better spend this money on my computer and buy a cheaper console that is designed for playing (instead of being designed for everything, and be poor at it all)

Wii lacks games, but if there should be one next gen console which i buy, it will be this one without any hesitations.
