Halo, Halo 2 and Halo 3 (we all know it).

That's just in the same genre.

    Eh?
Gears of War is totally different from Halo.

Shooting games are shooting games, I don't care enough to dice them up into little groups, first person or third person doesn't seem like much of a difference to me (over the shoulder or otherwise)

I guess I could go into more detail and explanation but honestly, I don't care - this topic is stupid so whatever.

now all we have to do is wait for a rabid sony fanboy to come in and swear to bejezzus that the FFVII remake will totally pwn GoW.

    /me sits back and waits.

btw. the GoW that will soon be on everyones mind... is God of War II.

I'd like to die with the songs I love stuck in my head. I hope to make the most of these hollow bones we become.
I raise a toast to the the souls that sang all along. I've been gathering friends to just to make some sounds,
before the ship goes down, I've been making amends by making the rounds before the whole world ends

I know you're banned, but just incase you read this, the Halo games are extremely over-rated. As a first person shooter, these games are below par with what I've come to expect from playing the many other first person shooters.

The only reasons the first one did so well were:
    - Graphics: It was one of the first Xbox games to really show off its capabilities.
    - Controls: It had the best controls of any console FPS at the time.

Unfortunately, it suffered from the following drawbacks:
    - Repetitive and uninspired level design.
    - Lack of weaponry
    - Lack of enemy types
    - Gameplay was solid, but too straight-forward. It was just your standard "Get from A to B while killing waves of enemies" type FPS.

When you combine all of those points together, the game becomes very boring. Think about it: Boring combat in boring levels against boring enemies with boring weapons. The only reason I kept fighting is just for the sake of finishing the game and knowing what happened next. The story is ok, but nothing great (I'm sure the novels would be a lot more interesting), but it was just enough to ensure that I kept playing.

Halo 2 was an improvement, but still shared some of the main issues. I still bought it, and I'll still give Halo 3 a chance too, but I'm not a blind, rabid fan-boy who can't see that there are better games out there.

As for Gears of War, I think it's really great. Sure, it still has its problems, but the single-player campaign was extremely varied and never stopped being fun. The five chapters take us to five completely different environments and subject us to different types of gameplay, keeping it fresh the entire way through the game. The level design was awesome, as were the graphics which really enhanced what they could do with the level design. A lot of the time I walked around very slowly to admire the surroundings, and a few times I just stood still, staring in awe at things that I never imagined my Xbox 360 could do.

Finally, the Xbox 360 is getting some really high quality titles. I don't know about you guys, but in Australia we have a very limited selection of Xbox 360 games. I got mine on launch day (I attended the midnight launch at my local EB Games), and until just recently I was wondering if my purchase might not have been a good idea. It's good to see that things are picking up, and if it continues this way I won't be disappointed.

Well, this exploded quite nicely I think. I like pong, and Halo, and grammar...
    in school.
Gears of War, the "current GoW" until God of War II come out for the PS3 that barely anyone owns yet *cough*600dollars*cough*, is so popular because it makes people think.

    'Stay in the light'

    'Get behind some cover'

'To 'nade or not to 'nade, that is the question'

These are thoughts that most likely come up in near all other shooters, but in near all other shooters, one can jump and crouch to avoid bullets.

Halo's multiplayer was it's selling point. Nowadays, if you ever hear Halo, it's never the storyline but the sticking, "meleeing", and multi-kills on xbox live.

So keep on talking! Spread the word! Start debates! I love video games and I can't stop playing GoW (Gears of War).
