Why PS3?

I'm just curious, because I have been looking around here and reading some of the forums, but Why is the PS3 so wanted?

The graphics, are on the same level as the 360. I mean after a certain point, it just doesn't matter. You can't look more real without using filmed people. Besides a lot of games seem to favor making the games follow a more artsy style.

The games are both on even levels or are being released on both systems. Sure there are MGS4, FF13, KH3, and others, but there are Splinter Cell, Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey, Dead Rising, Viva Pinata, and the next Banjo Kazooie.(and Sneak King)

Blu-ray, devs will never use the full disk. unless you want game costs to go WAY up, and hence game prices, you're still only going to see 8 gig games. Besides very few people have the HD tv to watch the movies. And when HD becomes the norm, there will be a Blu-ray attachment if BR wins the format wars.

So, Im curious. Why? What makes people go PS3 RULEZ! other than what makes people go 360 FTW! or Wii for Mii! (Fanboyism)

PS3 is most wanted because 360 suck big doneky ass..... ps im using the short version the other one has more foul languege....

Because of the original Playstation.

You have to realize that most people here got into video games (more seriously to some extent) when the Playstation was reigning over everything. It's only natural for such people to have a sense of brand loyalty. The PS2 has more AAA titles than the Xbox or Gamecube. They expect the same from the PS3.


It's basically the same thing as Final Fantasy VII. The main reason why it is so loved is because it appeared at the right time when video games were booming like never before. It's also how Naruto is so popular despite being crap. It appeared when broadband internet became really affordable for most people.


In a nutshell:
Playstation 1: Good timing.
Playstation 2: Good continuation.
Playstation 3: Brand loyalty.

If you intend to say something, please add some valid points.

Also lots of people also want the games coming out on it, people know MGS4, DMC4, RE5, FFXIII etc are coming out on the PS3 so they get it now.

I wouldn't say PS3 is most wanted, I would've though Wii would be most wanted with Zelda coming out as a launch.

I think that Jyuu practically summed it up, but besides brand loyalty, I'd say it is also for some of the exclusive titles.

Not everyone that likes MGS like Splinter Cell. Final Fantasies are already classics, just by thinking that the Xbox 360 has RPGs as well, for some, is still not enough motivation to switch from on platform to another.

I think it is also for the kind of games that the console portrays the most. For example, the games most people think, when having in mind the Xbox 360 are Halo, Need for Speed, and such. While, with the PlayStation, the games people tend to think are Final Fantasy, Devil May Cry, and others.

Maybe it may be incorrect, but my approach in this matter is that the ones that like PlayStation the most, are the ones that prefer Japanese games, while the ones that like Xbox the most, are the ones that like American games more.

PS: Sorry for this off-topicness, but is Banjo Kazooie indeed coming out? I may sound childish, but that game was awesome.

Coming out for the 360.

Other than saying "I have a PS3" and bragging about it there are no real reason to pay over retail (and honestly to me there is no reason to pay retail) for this system.

You mentioned MGS4, FF13, KH3 as games to get with the system BUT the fact is that those games wont be out for a long time, I mean last i saw mgs4 will be out in feb. 07(not that far but it may have been pushed, not sure) and FF13 is TBD......KH#? Was that even announced? You missed DMC4 but that wont be out for a while either.

I have game loyalty not system loyalty. If I can play R6 vegas on the less expensive 360 and have the same graphical and gaming experience i will play the game on the 360. I saw a comparison of the 360/PS3/Wii versions of call of duty 3 and the only thing that i could really see that the PS3 did over the 360 was the guns were glossier.

But really all of this is my opinion and maybe some people really wanted to play Resistance or other (around) launch titles but i stand by it being a waste of money and i feel bad for the people who felt the need to pay way over retail that first weekend.

I prefer the Wii. There's is gonna waaay more titles for it than the PS3 by the end of 2007. Also they have alot of downloads from many of the classic systems.

... ill attack from the point of view of someone whos NOT a Sony fanboy but supports the Sony cause. the reason the PS3 is so wanted is not all the extra bells and whistles but the games. there are FEW games that are great on Xbox that are exclusive, other than Halo, Project Gotham Racing, Gears of War,, most M$ titles are now crossplatform Splinter Cell is now cross platform all the sports games sell best on Sony platforms, and Sony just has a larger library of titles that are not gonna be anywhere else. Halo is probably the only thing compare to a a true Final Fantasy launch, but Gran Turismo, Tekken, Virtua Fighter, Soul Calibur, Ratchet & Clank, Metal Gear Solid (which no one will convince me is coming to 360 all he said was that 360 was CAPABLE of running it), Devil May Cry, Winning Eleven... im sorry to say that the xbox lineup has no games with the brand recognition like sony does coupled with the fact that other than Halo 3, Lost Planet, and MAYBE Fable 2 there are NO big exclusive games coming in 2007 for the M$ camp.

M$ may have actually killed the "PS3 is more powerful" notion to hardcore spec heads but the general public thinks otherwise and they have the lineup of games to go with it, they know this and theyre going to exploit it.
