Default Exclusive Titles : where have they all gone?

Many people are piss of by it. (Well mostly console fanboys when they lose a title to competing consoles) But to most normal people, it's a good thing cause it mean that they don't hafta dish out "599 U.S Dollars" to play Assassin's Creed.

However, with with all of these multi-platform games that around nowadays, it also means that those games are much lower in quality too. When developers create a game for multiple platform, they lose tons of production resource trying to get the game to run on several system instead of one. Look at what some of the best game out there are, you see that a large majority of them are console exclusive: Super Smash Bros, Final Fantasy, Metal Gear Solid, Halo, and Zelda, Shadow of Colossus, yada yada, etc etc. They are better cause they don't needlessly waste time and money, and better invest it in fixing and tweaking the game to make it superb.

So while I understand companies thinking that releasing on multiple system equal less risk for them. It's saddening to see that if this trend continue, games may get more and more mundane as time go on. I kinda wish two of the blast consoles on the market today if give up and die cause of it.

    /end rant

On a bias note: I hope PS3 win XD

Nice theory except for one possible thing. PC has great games. If you have a computer with a good graphics card you can play them. The games are still high quality. Not mundane at all.

It still support my theory, PC developer mostly only develop for PC, thusly a large part of it will be excellent games.

theres multiplatforming because the costs of creating next gen games are too high and theres no guarantee on a good ROI if a game is released on only one platform. thus to make up the costs, games are being ported to open their range for profit and keeping the developer/publisher out of the red.

    simple.

maybe the loss of exclusives will stop one firm having a monopoly for that console's lifetime because they own all the best titles while if they are on every machine then it means that we can now choose the console that appeals to us the most.
For example I know I will end up buying a PS3(when its not the best part of £500 mind) in a few years because I will want to play MGS4, DMC4, FFXIII, KH3 etc
While if they were availible on another console that I own then I would not need to buy a PS3

I just hope that when MGS4 is released on the 360, it will have better graphics than it currently has on the PS3. I can't stand the low-res textures.

exclusivity isnt dead yet, Sony and Microsoft both have wallets big enough to throw around that they can pay the developer/publisher (or buy them outright) and ensure exclusivity to the console. like now, i wouldnt be too surprised if Microsoft bought Epic Games in order to keep the Gears franchise exclusive to the 360, or if Sony bought a huge stock in say Konami or SquareEnix to keep KH3 and FFXIII and Metal Gear Solid 4 exclusive to PS3. its the same way that microsoft got thier exclusivity for a period with GTA4

PC and game systems are two different markets. The amount of PCs sold does not take away from the amount of game systems being sold, and vice versa. Likely you'll have both.

Look when Sega and Nintendo were battling it out. Nearly all the games were on both systems, minus the games they themselves made. The games were still high quality though. I don't think quality of games and exclusivity are connected at all.

Square-enix has stated that this gen that it will support the PS3 but will also support the Wii and 360 as well

Each console has its Title games
    Xbox-Halo
    Wii-Zelda/Mario
    PS3-FFXIII/MGS4

Also I doubt firms like Square-Enix could be brought out by Sony as Square-Enix is such a big company but they could buy smaller firms
