I just restarted to play Chrono Trigger yesterday. I put 80 hours in FFXII and it still wasn't as half as fun as a couple hours of C.T..Earlier this year I just got Xenosaga 3, and yet I managed to play much more Xenogears than Xenosaga. And it's not just these 4 but lots of other games.
I know this a VERY old complaint and people do it since ps1/n64/dreamcast days, but heck, this generation is ending, just compare the best games of this generation with the ones from ps1/saturn/snes days. There are great games today, but no Xenogears, no Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, no Chrono Trigger, no Final Fantasy Tactics(but lots of clones worst than the original), no Baldur's Gate 1 or 2, no Fallout 1 or 2, you get where I'm going.
I know there are masterpieces like Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne, Oblivion, Kotor 1, Dragon Quest VIII, Metroid, SSB Melee and lots of others.
But my frustration is, heck, how come those games managed to be better than most things we see today? Today we have better graphics, better sound and more money in this business, and also more people working in a single game at a time, how come we almost never see masterpieces comparable to C:SotN, CT or FFT?
