another factor which should be considered in buying GPUs is the availability of the games that can really push the limits of the GPU. right now there arn't much games which can push the limits of the current leading models (games like TES4). some times it may be a lot more cost effective to just buy a second GPU and use CrossFire/ SLi to boost the graphical capability...a little overclocking wouldn't hurt either....

$450 - 650? wow, I would rather spend my money on computing processor unit, since I'm not really a PC gamer, I've been interested with this Intel Core 2 X6800 and Pentium Extreme Edition (dual core w/ hyper threading).

Idiot, the X6800 is overpriced. And you're even more stupid if you are considering any Pentium and triple stupid for mentioning the Pentium EXTREME EDITION.

Moron. That's not why people should get SLI/CrossFire.

The ONLY advantage of dual GPU rendering is at HIGH RESOLUTIONS. 1600x1200 or higher. At 1280x1024 and lower, getting a SINGLE powerful video card is FASTER AND CHEAPER than getting two mid-range cards for SLI/CrossFire.

If at low resolutions you are getting low framerates, you are definitely getting a bottleneck.

    Remember this:
    With dual GPU rendering,

    1 + 1 = 1.1 at low resolutions
    1 + 1 = 1.5 at high resolutions

I know it's overpriced right now, but the price will be lowered after they produce more chips, anyway it is just a matter of preference, I think G80 is overpriced. The reason I'm interested with Pentium Extreme Edition, because they cost more/equal than the faster x6800, despite their slower performance in the benchmark.

They won't lower the price of the X6800 until the release of the X6900 and QX series and Core 2 Duo 1333MHz FSB.

The reason why the Extreme ones are overpriced is because of their unlocked multiplier.

If you have the board for it , then go for what ever core2 duo fits your wallet atm .. and upgrade down the line to a core2 quadro,

and as Jyuu says, dont bother with the extreme editions, not the pentium nor the core2 x6800 .. its simply not worth it ..
