Default How can Nintendo justify the price of the Wii?

At $250 for the pack and $60 for an extra controller, it sums up to $310.

With $340, you can get an Xbox 360 core pack and an extra wired controller.

    Read this:
    http://www.digitimes.com/systems/a20060726A1001.html

If they are right and that it's not a rumor, the 360 pro pack and a wireless controller would cost $350.

So how can Nintendo justify the price of the Wii?

On a pure technical point of view, the Wii contains age-old hardware that compares to the first Xbox.

The Xenos is as powerful as a 1900XT while the Hollywood compares to the X1600 plain.
Their CPU aren't even close with the 360 having a 3.2GHz tri-cored PowerPC processor and the Wii has a single core <1GHz PowerPC CPU.
20GB vs 512MB of storage space.
    720p/1080i vs 480p
    And much more stuff.

The Wii is the more expensive one AND hasn't proved itself yet while the 360 has proved itself to be an excellent console with many great exclusives.

I foresee the 360 winning the North American region and the Wii winning in Japan and a 40-35-25 (360, Wii, PS3 respectively) in Europe.

Wii is innovention. 360 is power. A real gamer buys the system that he'll have the most fun with, not the one that makes his pocket $20 heavier.

    To each his own.

By making the best games, most likely. I don't know. No one knows. The systems really haven't had time to show what they can do yet. Ask me in a couple years.

PS3 hasnīt proved itself either, right?

All I can say is, journalists at Eģ were impressed, long lines. At the business center of the games convention the same. A workmate played Red Steel and was impressed.

Nope. It'll get its trial as well, just with a huge handicap due to the price.

Never mentioned the PS3's price in my post. It's price is far too high to be in this comparison. You must have an inferiority complex in Nintendo's place.
But you are just a fanboy, so your replies will be ignored.

The Xbox 360 has already many great games. And if you read what they said, they waited in lines because they were curious, not because they were in awe. Mass Effect, Lost Planet and Assassin's Creed left a bigger impression. And if you remember what they said after E3, they said that the Wiimote works for games that were designed for it and the ones that were just a half-assed implementation were not great, and that includes Twilight Princess.

If you remember clearly, it took the DS an entire year to get killer titles that used the touch screen properly.

Innovation? They had motion sensing in the Eye-toy and tilt controllers years ago for PC.

The reason why most people are jumping on the Nintendo bandwagon is because of:
The Xbox's history with gamers and its failure against the PS2.
The way the Gamecube was a failure (in terms of sales and even Nintendo admitted that).
Sony's being too slow to bring out the PS3.

The thing is now people won't see the dark side of the Wii.

This reminds me of Crystal Cronicles

Heres a Cartoon of VGcats to explain why the 'system' is so cheap

hmm I don't know if this is the valid source but it said that they will include the wii sports game (abt $50). http://www.wiiprice.com/

oh and the wii remote + nunchuck is a bitch!
    I can't believe it costs $60 ($39.99 + $19.99). This might be the problem.
the accessories cost almost the half of the machine itself, which is not the case with gamecube, the GC controller costs abt no more than $15-$20 and the machine was originally $150. so I guess the wii machine it self (w/out the wii and nunchuck controller) should cost around $200-$60, which is $140

The xbox360 core only includes 1 controller and their controller only cost $40,
so the machine it self costs $259 and this is a lot more expensive if you compare to Wii machine's price, $140.

The way I see it, they put the credit more on the controller and the gameplay rather than on the capacity of the machine itself.

Nintendo can justify the price of the Wii becuase of:
    SSBB online
    Zelda:TP
    Super Mario Galaxy
    Rayman(afro love)
    Super Mario RPG:7stars(again)
    SSBB online
    SSBB online
    SSBB online

And also, though you may try to point out that Wii is not "innovative" becuase nintendo is merely reintroducing the motion sensor technology, the Wii IS innovative becuase for the first time, a company is willing to market the motion sensor technology as the backbone of its system, and not merely as a gimmick.

And do you think that sales of The New Super Mario Bros. would have lessened if it did not fully implement the touch screen? Oh wait, it didnt.

Well, i dont understand the 2nd reason at all, but I would say that the other two reasons are good arguments in favor of buying the Wii.

Yes, just as Microsoft fanboys bought XBOX to play Halo and only Halo
And also the way how the same PS2-playing Sony fans now insist that processing power, graphics, framerate, etc. are superior to gameplay.
