Lies, I don't know anyone that has a ps2 and didn't mod it, many of my friends have ps2s older than 4 years(and all were modded when bought) and all work perfectly.Originally Posted by tetnubis

Not questioning your personal interest, it was mainly from my point of view.Originally Posted by tetnubis
The thing is, you (personally) wouldn't have too, except for a JP console, you don't have to support each and every company. Sony are well off enough as it is, I was talking about developers and publishers, you support them more by buying the games rather then the consoles. If modding your PS2 means you can play legit games from around the world more power to ya. The main prospect of importing is playing all the games that never came out in your region, for an American that's only Japan, but for us EU that's pretty much everywhere.Originally Posted by tetnubis
The main prospect of modding is to download and burn games, that I can't agree with. I've done it before, and most times the pirated version couldn't stand up to the real one. I haven't played any pirated games for PS2, so I don't know what those are like, but I imagine it's similar.
That only applies to a handful of games, mainly only ones that Hideo Kojima makes. Apart from that there's no advantage to importing EU games.Originally Posted by tetnubis
Like Jyuu said, the PS2 won't become obsolete for a good few years when everyone has transitioned nicely into the next generation.Originally Posted by tetnubis
The economical choice would be to mod your PS2, I personally wouldn't call it the right choice though.Originally Posted by tetnubis
As do I.Originally Posted by tetnubis

Oddly enough i forgot that you can play legit games on a modded PS2...
@Issalroc, quite possible that they were talking shit, none the less, from personal experience, i have seen that a PS2 mod, can screw up the PS2 over time.
They were talking shit. Unless the modder is a total noob there's no problem. Belive me, here in my country 99% os ps2s are modded. Maybe even a bigger percentage.Originally Posted by tetnubis
hmm i see..
i decided to NOT get the mod chip cuz i dun want my ps2 broken like the last time >_>
i was thinking of trying out swap magic, I borrowed the CD off a friend and tried it in my ps2, the CD worked and all except for the part where i put in the burned game.
it got me to dat "Refreshing TOC" and just kept on loading...
i read one of guide
it said something about
"you need to install the tools ( eg. magic switch, fliptop , slide tools ) to enable the console not to reset while swaping the disc"
does dat mean i need to get the fliptop/tools and install it in my ps2(slim) ?
...? do i really have to install the flip top, it has its own flip top already
You'll have to "cheat" the ps2 = you can't let it notice you're changing the discs.
edit: oh nevermind i found out the problem..Originally Posted by Issalroc
i have to get the tools/flip top with the swap magic to make it work..
the tools/flip top makes your ps2 think that the lid is closed so that you can swap the disk, without it, its pretty much useless..
dats how you "cheat" the ps2..
Thanks for your help,
