Looks like it might be true anyway. Part of me is hoping it's a fake/photoshop/joke. FF6 needs a damn remake dammit. FF7 was stupid. ;X

UPDATE: We received word as soon as our boys made it back that Square Enix wanted to make it clear that there will not be a Final Fantasy VII remake for PS3. Repeat, there will not be a remake. But, there will be a new Final Fantasy game for the system somewhere down the line. We'll have info on that as it happens.

Square Enix is quick to remind us that the inclusion of the FFVII trailer on this bonus DVD is no indication that FFVII is being remade for the PS3. Keep that in mind when you're watching the trailer when the 1/26 Japanese release of Dirge of Cerberus comes about.

President of Square Enix, Yoichi Wada, was quick to point out that this wasn't a teaser, or a hint of any intention to do a remake of Final Fantasy VII, but explained that Final Fantasy titles were indeed guaranteed to come to PS3 one day.

In a short interview granted to the magazine EGM, Yoshinori Kitase (Enix Public garden) gives us some precise details on the possibilities of seeing unloading a remake of Final Fantasy VII on Playstation 3. According to him, the development of a complete remake of Final Fantasy VII with a quality as presented at the time of E3 could take up to 5 years and a team of more than 300 people. In addition, the characters and the environments would have a level of details so high that the physical changes or equipment would be visible directly with the screen. However, Tetsuya Nomura (Kingdom Hearts) specifies that many projects are currently in hand in the studios of Enix Public garden, itself having begun the development from certain titles for several consoles next-gen.

Regarding the hot topic of a Final Fantasy VII remake, Kitase felt it could have been done, provided the company had only released two Compilation of Final Fantasy VII games and managed to match timing and schedule. The creation of the PlayStation 3-based opening sequence demo alone took 2-3 months, hence remaking the entire game would take a considerable amount of time.

For the last fucking time - it's not going to happen. Unless they're wanting for it to be a surprise, but I doubt that.

Aradiel, I don't want it to happen either, but that's a scan from the EGM June edition. Or so it seems. I just hope it's a fake, or EGM has its info wrong. Besides, it seems illogical that they announce 3 FF13 games at E3, and not say a word about a project like this.

I'm quite certain that the scrrenie they have is part of the tech demo.

I lost most of my interest in Final Fantasy ever since FFX and I could care less about the later FFs.

So I guess I wouldn't mind a FFVII remake IF they ever decided to make one.

why would you want a remake of that game anyway. It good enough. Beside... I'm glad... I hate cloud with a passion. Him and Tidus are teh worst lead character in the FF series.

there may be no remake any time soon, but i have high hopes for a FF classics revisions project maybe sometime in the later future (say 10 years from now?)

Seriously, I thought the PS3 would be able to play PS1 games. Why would you need to remake it for a system that can play the original anyway? I've bought remakes... mostly for the GBA, and originally from SNES... but unless they remake the game for another system entirely, I don't see the point.

Could be a nice surprise in the future, though.
