There is no acronym... Just "Wii"
No need to abbreviate, just "Wii"

I actually do like the name after having read the explanation for the choice of the name

flash i noticed all through you post you were bitching about the unfulfilled zelda game for N64 that didnt come after OOT... do the words Majoras Mask ring a bell obviously youve heard about it but it was NOT a prequel/sequel to OOT, where you pulled that from is beyond me. Fanboys like yourself have been fighting for years as to the chronological order of the zelda games. i just think your trashing the wii because the game after OOT was NOT the sequel you dreamed about... every time nintendo has promised a game they delivered on it. and they have almost never delivered a bad major first party game., as for your comparisons of RE4, Twilight Princess, and SSMB, the argument about the one wire, i think youre just pulling at air for "reasons" to hate the Nintendo name since they made you wait all this time for a Zelda directly related to OOT.

... but thats just my opinion =|

On April 27, 2006, Nintendo changed the Revolution section of their official website, http://wii.nintendo.com, to announce the official name of the system. Nintendo's Reggie Fils-Aime explained that:

"Wii sounds like 'we,' which emphasizes that the console is for everyone. Wii can easily be remembered by people around the world, no matter what language they speak. No confusion. No need to abbreviate. Just Wii."

Nintendo spells "Wii" with two "i"s to create an image of players gathering together. The spelling also is intended to evoke the controllers the Wii uses.

Shortly after announcing the name, Nintendo received a large response - a mixture of criticism, disbelief and sometimes confusion - from English speaking countries because Wii sounds like the slang word "wee" which children use for urine.

nintendo have it again, they make us all confused

okay I think 2040 and lotus, you got me wrong here,
you overlook what I'm trying to say here.

well nobody in nintendo ever said Majora's mask (MM) is a sequel to ocarina of time but MM is definetely a sequel to Ocarina of time, if you have played the game, you can tell that he has THE ocarina, the juvenile horse, and the mask selling guy is there too, so obviously you haven't played the game, anyway, it doesn't matter if MM is a sequel or prequel, I don't care about zelda chronological order, that is just stupid, what I'm saying is MM is just another game using the same "developing engine" platform as ocarina of time, as you failed to see that in zelda generations, Shigeru has never build zelda in the same platform, from the first ZELDA to the wind waker for non hand held console, it is always a different feeling, but not MM, MM is just the same as Ocarina of time, it is just another different story. SO my point is that the new Zelda they bragged about after ocarina of time is not about MM at all, it is something else that look alike ZELDA:TP. Okay then I thougt, "oh of course, it will come out on the new console - dolphin/Gamecube!" Wrong! what was come out on Gc was another zelda game which wasn't based on the previously promised zelda new game, it was completely different from what was advertised/promised, "But it is zelda anyway, it has to be good," Wrong again, this time ZELDA:WW sucks, well for me it is just not as appealing as it would have with ocarina of time and Majora's mask

edit: finally got a hold of the evidence, this is what nintendo promised on the new console dolphin/Gamecube after ocarina of time, but what came out is totaaly different
    http://www.kasuto.net/archives.php?m...ves/news1.html

2040: yes ,I know TP is coming out this year, but what? after delaying several times! and for a year! wait no it is actually for almost ten years! if you count their promise of the new zelda game after the ocarina of time (the one that doesn't look a like ZELDA:MM or ZELDA:WW, you have to see the screen shots and movies) they originally had it came out in fall 2005, and bestbuy had to change their zelda promo card release date for the preordered games several times heheh,
yes it looks like they are concern with the customers by releasing ZELDA:TP in both consoles, but if you have followed nintendo from the beginning, you understand this is just their make up scheme for their failures in Super Mario Sunshine and wind waker, I don't know why you don't see wind waker or sunshine as a failure compare to zelda and mario in N64, it is not just me, I have asked several of other people and my friends and they said mario sun shine and zelda:WW could do better, I admitted yes they are doing a very good job with their mascots games in N64, but seriously, with gamecube, they have failed to do so.

In this new world of gaming, "post-GTA3" as one analyst put it recently, the Mario franchise itself does not seem to make the waves it did many years ago. Super Mario Sunshine was well received, but on the face of it seems a childish game to the uneducated – bright colours, a water pack gun etc. Super Mario Sunshine did not seem to travel far from the Super Mario 64 formula; it may even seem like it has taken a step back with shorter levels, and many of the shines relying on tedious blue coin collecting. I must also criticise the easiness of the final boss fight, with (spoiler) a mere three ground pounds taking the "in-bath" bowser down.

lotus: I'm not bitchin up and make random accusition for ZELDA:TP development , I don't know if you have seen the screen shots or movies from nintendo advertising their new ZELDA after ocarina of time (maybe around year 1999), it wasn't look like Zelda:Wind waker at all, it is more like the now ZELDA:TP, so you can tell that they have been developing ZELDA:TP from around 1999, Oh I really want to show you the screen shots and the movies that i got from ign.com, I just don't have it anymore, it was so long time ago, I reformatted my computer several times, and forgot to back it up, thinking it would come sooner in the new console Dolphin/Gamecube, which is NOT!

why they delaying the Zelda:TP is obviously they don't want to ruin the surprise which they need for ZELDA:TP on Wii, if they release it too soon, people will lose interest later on when ZELDA:TP come out on Wii, so a year gap between ZELDA:TP on Wii and GC is the maximum they can get, if they delaying some more that's just retarded since they already announce it long time ago, so the thing about nintendo is they are promising too much/ too soon, it is like microsoft and windows vista, they want to get as many as supporters/customers, by promising and promising, delaying, well this comment could be bias as I said, I followed Zelda news from the beginning. well, for RE4 it is just my mistake for overlooked sony's strategy and I'm not comparing that to anything.

Oh ZELDA IS everything to Nintendo, and all other nintendo's mascot, I can't imagine Wii sales without ZELDA and other Mascot's games, such as Mario party, mario tennis, mario soccer, kirby, etc, all this time they have been only relying on their mascot, if they want to improve they need other supporters, just like sony they have a lot third party game developers. Yes why you want super mario 128 in the old console when you have the new console? that answer is probably nintendo would use to defend themselves. The thing is why in the first place they annouced that it will come out on GC, another make up promise scheme to me (super mario 128 had been in IGN.com Gamecube release dates list-TBA2006-2007, but soon after that ign.com get smart and delete it from the list)

If all goes well, this game should be released before the next-generation system is out, as recently it has been said that in-house development times have been shortened. From what has been said and rumoured by Miyamoto and other sources; Super Mario 128 (or whatever the final name may be) should deliver the experience that perhaps should have been along with the launch of the GameCube. A new, innovative (like Super Mario 64), fun (like the 2D Mario games) and appealing experience – Let us all hope they pull it off.

btw my comments is not based on this one article, but this article points out all of the "good" things, I have read a lot in the past.

Yes I'm overreacting, I have to, no one else realized this, they are just happy go lucky being teased by nintendo promises. I'm not trashing Wii, I'm also looking forward to Wii, it seems very interesting, reminds me of those japanese arcade games where you have to move your body to play them, really fun, but yeah about the controller wire, I overlook the wireless thingy, so what's that thing dangling on the controller when this guy played it, it looks like it is not just one cable it has several cables dangling there! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XvN7f...006%20nintendo

damn I wrote too much already

i laughed soooo hard wwhen i saw that the ps3 ripped off the wii controller, though i don't think the movements you can make will be anywhere near as good. i think the wii has a good chance of selling well initially, but the long term sucess will be determined by if they can manage to put out a good number of games for it.

The PS3 controller uses a different technology than the Wii remote.

Geez Flash, dont be so bitter. A business's goal is to make a profit, and a company has to make certain stretches to its stockholders/customers to make them happy. And besides, I doubt that Nintendo's claim that they were developing a "new" Zelda game pushed forward sales of the N64 anyway, considering how great Mario64 and OoT were. Also, even though MM was developed from the same engine, that doesnt mean it's a rehash of OoT. Yes it was pretty short(compared to other Zelda titles), but it still had a pretty innovative mask/time system that really did make it stand out, whether you liked the game or not.

Also, to Rocklee, I dont see how you think Sony takes better care of their customers. Nintendo, w/ their nearly indestructible GC/DS have been pushing out high quality consoles/handhelds, while those from Sony/Microsoft have been hurt by malfunctions such as dead pixels. Also... lying about specs does not equate to taking care of customers.

Anyway....to me, I will always think of Wii as Revolution, so whatever.

And, Nintendo has been doing well at E3, only concern I have is how that gamer in that TP video had trouble aiming the bow. Nevertheless, I will buy the Wii, if only for SSBB. METAKNIGHT!! RAWR

Oh, and PS3 lost face when they backed out of their original boomerang design and inserted the Wii imitation controller. Further proof that no matter how much Sony executives scoff at Wii's "gimmicks", they do acknowledge the fact that it may be successful.

    Mr.popo
it is true a business goal is to make profits, but promising a product and then delayed several times for a year is obviously not a good business practices.

No, nintendo didn't want to boost N64 sales by developing the new zelda (see previous post zelda screen shot)game, N64 was pretty much done at that time.
It was intended for Gamecube/dolphin, but it was never make it to gamecube, instead wind waker came out, and they thought maybe they could experiment a little bit with zelda, but the've got it wrong this time, Zelda:WW wasn't a success compared to the 3D Zelda titles in N64.

yeah for some reason I don't see sony is any better than nintendo in treating their customer, look at N64 and gamecube controller ports, it has 4 controller ports, means, you don't have to buy any extra accessories for 4 players games, where PS1 and PS2 doesn't have that, and considering how much you pay for PS console, sony is just too greedy.

I don't understand what's the deal with removing the rumble capability and inserting the motion sensing capability at the last minute, SONY lost me there, hmm looks like Nintendo got them this time.
