Thread: Suikoden V is out!

Is anyone a Suikoden fan here? If you're not, you should really check out Suikoden, an old-school RPG involving collecting 108 Stars of Destiny to join your revolution and rewrite history. It's a brilliant series with great storyline, interesting characters (and cute!) and fun gameplay! plus, you can play this game at a leisurely pace and enjoy the mini-games!

the latest one is out, part V, and if any of you is disappointed with part III or IV, fear not, for part V is great and worth every penny! the story's placed in the Queendom of Falena (female dominatrix XD) and you're playing the Prince. Your mum is a great and just ruler...or so you think. The clogs of destiny has once again begun to move, but who knows, you might be able to change fate.

Soooo... how was Suikoden V?

Assuming since it has been a while since this post... you'd have already played it...

it's already the US version. it's a great game. u should play it.

I was planning to... after exams and stuff.

But I've heard some negative things about it too... like the loading times... the sheer number of random encounters... and the difficulty of navigation...

yeah the sheer number of random battles is hell.... it won't stop until you get a certain rune. As for loading times... it isn't that bad... the navigation is kinda hard up until you get the overworld map... As always recruiting characters takes much of your time up... but well that's what suikoden is known for right...?

sheer number of random battles?i dont have any problems with that...they appear normally...about twice every 10-15 steps...and the loading times...it's quite fast.navigation...yeah u just have to listen to where the location directed and go that way...it's not THAT hard.

I dunno... I played III, and it simply couldnt capture me. I found it slow and mostly boring to play. How does V stack up to it in terms of plot, characters, romance, gameplay, etc?

while i haven't played much of it the suikoden series is a workhorse and a allround good series of rpgs. I'm more of a ff person though but this is a good alternative and gives greater choice.

Actually, I found III the most boring out of the Suikodens ^^. Although a lot of people like it for some reason.

I've recently bought V and so far found myself spending all my time on it... which sucks because I've exams coming up.

The characters are definitely one of the highlights. The voice acting is much better than a lot of series, although there are still some problem actors (Lymsleia sounds like a girl trapped in a hydrogen balloon or something). The plot is, naturally, filled with political intrigue etc. The gameplay is pretty simple, but I guess that makes things go faster. This is one of the few games I actually don't spend a lot of time lvling up ^^ unlike the final fantasy series >_>. Although the loading times still take too long...

"Romance," was never really a highlight of the series if you're talking about lovey dovey sort. It's there... but waaaaay in the background... and nothing's going to come out of it if this series follow it's predecessors' footsteps.
