Thread: Futari Ecchi from TokyoPop

So what do we think about FE coming from TokyoPop? It looks like they will be doing thematic omnibus editions, rather than publishing the volumes in original chapter order. The price will be $19.99 and the title is Manga Sutra - Futari H. (I thought it kind of funny that the other title announced at the same time is Gauken Alice, which TKP evidently thinks will be the next Fruits Basket).

Well i have a few things to say about this....
1) $19 is WAY to expensive for a manga. Most of them are $10 at the most.
2) They'll probably censor it all.
3) If they release a new one every month then scans could become useless in a few months. XD

What do you mean it wont be published in order? (What would be the point in that?)
And yeah, guaranteed it will be censored for the sake of all the bible thumping PTAs, politicians and preists, etc (when will they ever learn that its just plain stupid to try and make something sexually explicit and aimed at adults, suitable for children?).

This is an exercise in epic failure.

Each oversized volume will have a theme, like orgasm, loss of virginity, etc. It looks to me like TKP is going for stand alone volumes. At the price, I doubt it will be edited for content. The volumes will be blindered, with cover art from the original volumes inside.

TSIA, I'm afraid. Watch all the geniuses in the US commercial scanslation business draw the (completely mistaken) lesson that there's no market for this sort of manga in English-speaking countries when it bombs.

I agree. FE is not pornographic enough to stand alone without its ongoing story (there are whole chapters without nudity).

This idea helps noone: The porn crowd won't buy it because it is not porn and the ecchi crowd won't buy it because it butchers the story (might as well wait for the scans to follow the story along).

And to add insult to injury it is overpriced (I know they are large volumes, but FE does not have enough artistic value or content to warrant any kind of premium (OK, we all like it, but seriously, aside from an entertaining structure and premise, it is a pretty whatever series)).

All around a complete waste of paper. I'd be amazed if it makes it past 3 volumes. Way to ruin a good gateway series.

Here's a bit more info: TKP is listing FE as 5 volumes (but their volume listings often mean nothing) - Flirtation, Foreplay, Intercourse, Orgasm, Afterglow. Who knows exactly what this means. 384 pages, so a 2 volume bind-up. Vellum box with trading card featuring images from the original covers and recipes from The New Intercourses. Cross marketing with Suicide Girls and Kimono Condoms.

$19 for a manga, no thanks, I rather get a language book or a cookbook for that price.
