This is super new to me! Especially since I've been really out of the whole anime loop, but wow. I was actually hoping that they'd just make a second movie and get the anime over with, since I'm more of the manga plotline fan -_-; but I do wish that Ed and Winry will get together and live happily ever after.
Is that too much to ask for?!
Yeah, you have to read the manga. The anime is a piece of shit compared to it. And don't get me wrong though, the anime is AWESOME, but that just shows you just how much better the manga is.
I really hope they follow the manga storyline for the new series and not go on some different tangent. But being that it was announced in the manga comic, that gives a lot of hope that it will be manga based. The original series is well and truly resolved (unless you count the missing nuke as a storyline, but I don't), so it's going to have to be a separate story/universe/whatever.

Awesome stuff. I was saddened at the ending of the anime since the manga continued onwards while the anime ended. The ending was pretty bad too (including the movie), because I think its boring to end up on Earth after going through all that (think about it, would you rather be in a world where you can use alchemy, or a world where you have to rely on technology to fight? So maybe they don't have planes, I'm sure alchemists would eventually think of something).
Details on this new anime are still hazy, but it's all but confirmed that this will be a reboot rather than a sequel to the original FMA, which means it will use the manga's storyline. I hope it doesn't catch up to the manga so rapidly that they need to pad it out with lame filler like Naruto. I also hope they use the same voice actors as the original series(especially for the English dub).
Heh, a lot of people I've meet just became happier due to those words Witcher. I also must agree though, that cast is awsome. Oh, and the voice actor for Hughs really is Hughs (and no he didn't die!).
The website for the new series has just gone live, confirming an April premiere date.

Edit: It also seems to indicate that it will be a new adaptation of the manga, starting over from the very beginning.
Edit 2: If you want to see the trailer, then check out the latest episode of Gundam 00 (or wait until it makes its way onto YouTube). I personally haven't seen it yet, but I hear it contains footage that‘s not available on the website.
For sure, for sure it's going to be a remake of FullMetal Alchemist and not a sequel to the one before? If it's a remake please give me a link to where it says so please because I would love to have confirmation on it.
Yasuhiro Irie (director) recently confirmed -- in an interview with Newtype magazine -- that it is, indeed, a new adaptation of the manga. He also spoke briefly on its length, saying that it will be a fifty-two episode series, and that, so far, they have written the scripts for the first eighteen episodes.
