    any other ideas on why Father is attempting to repeat the Xerxes experiment ? i believe this is the one "final truth" that signals the end of the manga. they've already found the truth (philosopher stone made from humans), the truth behind the truth (military is behind its creation), and the other truth (the country is being used as an array).

    anyway, i was thinking for a moment that Father might actually be Hohenheim, and the homunculus might be Ed's father (since they both look alike), but i don't think this is likely; the personalities are too different.

    Father doesn't act like either of them, but that could be because he expelled the other homunculi I guess.

    Just guessing about Hohenheim's wife. He went roaming to learn some secret. He did not want to leave her and she promised she would be well by the time he returns. But her illness progressed so far he could not help her.

    that is what i was thinking too - Father is so bland because he expelled all his "personality" as various homunculus. but what i'm talking about is the elrics' father - from the flashback in the omake, and everywhere else, he seems benevolent and penitent; which fits Hohenheim (slave) more than the Xerxes homunculus.

    i believe that also addresses newb@poster's post

    I agree with Echo's designation as well. My question is, who created homunculus? Whoever made it had to have a lot of alchemic skill and the fact that the master was never seen or recognized in these chaps really leaves a big mystery.

    At one point earlier in the manga, Hoenheim (Ed and Al's father) called out the names of the souls within him as he used them to perform some task. Presumably certain things that Hoenheim (the slave) and Hoenheim (the homunculus) do require the consumption of the souls that reside within them. Thus the reason why Hoenheim (the homunculus) is attempting to repeat the experiment is to replenish the souls he has lost since the Xerxes event, maintaining his immortality. Hoenheim (the slave) would obviously not care about this as his one remaining goal is to stop Hoenheim (the homunculus).

    @Urameshi

    they *did* show the master though - he was the bald-headed dude in the latest chapter, unless the scanlation i read is completely off. him and the king were both major characters in that time period, but in the end, everyone in Xerxes died except for Hoenheim and the homunculus (who happened to be at the true centre of the circle)

    @Hardboiled

    that might be right; perhaps it was creating all those other homunculus' that also used up a lot of souls.
