it is, but the anime is also worth watch, its an entirely different story (and i mean VERY different)

End, no...the book is far, far from the end and uses a much different premise for why the Homunculus exist and what their ultimate goal for Amestris is.

i wouldn't be so sure that the book is "far, far from the end". i mean, the mangaka just set up everything for the big finale - they find out there's one last thing before the homunculus completes their master plan, and everyone's gathering at briggs. i hope it'll end in like.. maybe 20 more chapters.

Better read the manga and watch the anime. You'll appreciate both since they are different from each other

Well, since Arakawa manages around 40+ pages per chapter I can't really complain (You should see mangas like Hellsing: It once had five pages and it's serialized monthly too!) and a great advantage of monthly and Bi-monthly mangas is that the mangakas have more time to work in both art and story development (so I'd say that a little wait it's really a low price to pay considering all the benefits).

And about the thread question, I agree with all here: The manga version differs so much with its animated counterpart that it's impossible to say where the manga surpases the anime (since they weren't really related to begin with, only kind of similar in the beginning) so better read the manga from the very beginning.

The manga also has a different timeline from the anime, so you're best off starting from the beginning. Events in Ed and Al's past also happened differently.
