Thread: What did you think of Alphonse at this part?

It took *so* long for me to forgive him after reading this.
What a stupid, selfish thing to do. "Wah! Wah! I don't like seeing people die, so I'll just force you to watch helplessly while your only friends in the entire world are killed before your very eyes!"
I appreciate it's a hard decision to make and he didn't have long to do it, but he was in the exact same position himself for Christ's sakes! Is a little bit of empathy too much to expect from him? Stupid kid.

i thought it was alright. it's pretty consistent with how he acted before - he simply doesn't like people sacrificing themselves for others when it isn't necessary/would make things worse.

like the time when ed wanted to sacrifice himself to save his brother - that's *not* what alphonse wanted. same as this situation. her companions wanted her - at least - to live. like ed said, "self-sacrifice is self-satisfaction" when you don't consider the feelings of the people you're sacrificing for.

He was doing the right thing. I felt bad for both of them, but she shouldve run, not tried to force her way into a lost cause.

Agreed that it's just Al's way of doing things. It has been consistent with the way he's always been portrayed. He has always been a rational person. Seeing that there was no way letting her out will solve anything, Al, wanting to save her would rather her live than die. Even if that means she might have to suffer to do so.

Did you miss the part where they told him to protect her? He was doing just what they asked letting her rush out to die wasn't going to help.

He was only trying to protect her...except uh...he really didn't in the end. It's better off that way, in my opinion.

al was just acting as al should have been. he was told to protect her, and despite her "snake" abilities, al knew that she would have died if she faced the fuhrer/wrath.

I hope you didn't forget that her comrade's specifically told Al to protect her. Also, echoblaze brought up a point that i'd never thought of; that Al doesn't want any unnecessary sacrifices.

What really got to me about that scene was when Wrath killed her and just let her bleed to death inside of Alphonse. That must have felt disgusting.
