About Roy Mustang, dont misunderstand him, he is NOT FLAME ALCHEMIST!!! Flame is only the esiest reaction he can make througth the AIR. All the rest of alchemists, need direct contact whith something connected to target (like Ed& Al touched ground to make walls, holes, spikes etc.)/ He is the only one who making it througth air. So, he is "Air Alchemist", and there is high posibility what flames are not the worst thing he can create (gas attack makes much less noise for example).

um... he calls himself the "flame alchemist". besides, if he was really an "air alchemist", it would probably be a lot easier creating mini-tornados than flames. all you need to do is put energy into it, whereas in manipulating flames, you'd have to adjust the oxygen content, friction of the glove, and direction.Quote:

1) he told mustang that the secret lies on riza's back
2) riza said told mustang to burn her back so another flame alchemist can't be born
3) that implies that her back contains the directions for the spark clothes, and instructions on how to use it. and that would be her father's secret from (1)
i could go and get the quotations from the chapters, if you're still unconvinced.
I gotta be the one to say it: Have we seen another flame alchemist in this story? Even one? It may be a very difficult alchemy to process, particularlly at the level that roy has. The ability to control the depth and heat of fire may be amazingly difficult to calculate onto a perminant fixture that he can adjust by willpower rather than alchemic drawings.
i think terasiel mite be onto something there. maybe flame alchemy is incredibly hard to do? would explain how mustang passed the test, you know, being able to manipulate fire...
How about that Crimson alchemist, He was an explosion alchemist ?! i mean wasn't flame and explosion is kinda alike ?
that's different, crimson specialises in creating bombs, while roy burns things by snapping his fingers. One of the more notable differences is that Roy is useless under the rain since he creates fire while crimson would still be quite powerful since he creates bombs which then explodes and the explosion creates flames
But wasn't the technique of Crimson bombing is a lot difficult than flames ? Cause he must know the composition of chemical substance that can explode while Roy only created fire with his hand and needs to adjust the amount of oxygen in the air IMHO.

your previous post asked if they were similar and they are not, roy creates fire/flames, crimson creates bombs, which then explodes and that usually involves flames/fire, but he didn't really create the fire. I suppose you can think of roy's flame alchemy as spontaneous combustion whose degree of intensity can be controlled by him, while crimson creates an actual object(his bombs), roy just burn things.
still though I would imagine that controling the oxygen composition of the air is harder than you think I mean if he got it wrong he could burn his friends or himself, while crimson creates a bomb whose explosion radius can be controlled by the size/content of the bomb.
flames are combustion of a flammable material. an explosion is the sudden release of energy from a reaction releasing heat, light, and is exothermic and (usually) produces a new gas. while an explosion releases heat and can cause things to catch fire, it isn't fire in itself.
