Well, I have to agree. The anime was the first introduction I got to FMA in general, and I thought it was great. As an anime in its own right, it's excellent. Now, when comparing it to the manga, it kinda loses its lustre. As in most cases where anime adaptations are made from manga, the storyline veers off from the original plot arc at some point. I do find the manga to be more interesting; some characters that were finished off in two anime episodes were given more depth (like Barry the Chopper) and some situations were plowed into further, like when Envy impersonated Ross to kill Hughes, and they wound up arresting her. (Though I was perfectly fine with Tucker dying right after transmuting Nina, that jerk)
Stiil, this doesn't mean I dislike the anime. On the contrary, it shows us a different side of the world of FMA, and makes us realize that something like the creation of the Homunculi could've been interpreted in two different ways. More importantly, it didn't take away any depth from the main characters; they remained three-dimensional all the way.
That, and the voice acting is some of the best I've seen in translated anime.

Trust me, I've seen some bloody HORRIBLE anime adaptations... *cough cough Chrono Crusade cough cough*

    That said, AMEN!

Yeah ZOMGFTA does do a good job (although I'm looking forward to more TMI-Scans releases as well)... but have you seen the Evil-Genius pages? They were cleaned like nothing I'd ever seen.

don't complain. and it's hard to scanlate. at least ZOMGFTA are doing the scanlating of the later chapters for fans to enjoy. and compared to other scanlating groups, theirs is very high in quality.

In fact...the very idea of human transmutation is changed when Studio Bones did the anime. Don't get me wrong, I adore the artwork, but as far as storyline, read the manga. Please. You'll love it.
    Damn right.
I reckon that the manga has better artwork though, but everyone has an opinion.
And there are some loopholes in the concepts for the anime because they changed the storyline so much.
And (sorry for talking so much) i REALLY don't like the american voice actors. i shudder every time i hear it.

I never said it was easy to scanlate. But being only two guys, as taisa brought to my attention (I thought they were at least four), naturally, they wouldn't be able to release at a higher quality in time, with all the scanning, cleaning, and typesetting involved (unless they want to work SUPER SUPER SUPER HARD). That's all I'm saying. I'm more than happy these guys are doing it for free, and keeping the FMA story moving for me.

I remember no groups were doing it for a while.... scary times.

We are girls. :D Not that it really matters, but yeah.

We don't actually like the results of cleaning magazine RAWs, so even though I have discovered how it's done during these two years of scanlating, we choose not to. We're doing this for free and on our own time, so surely we should be allowed a little bit of personal preference in how it's done, right? *shrugs*

Annnnd there's my first random forum-hopping of the year! *bows out*

I agree, I prefer the somewhat textured look of a fresh scan (although with the contrast adjusted to get rid of the paper color and make the lines darker) to really well cleaned lineart.

Some of the Naruto lineart that has been cleaned/touched up loses a ton of nuances in the original line work.
