Default Community Request: "FMA General Information Thread"

That's right, I need a general information thread like the one for Naruto and the one for One Piece. Just something to give new readers a place to look up things, from basic common knowledge about the series to trivia and so on. If anyone is up to it, just make it and I'll sticky it. I don't honestly trust myself to make something like this and on top of that, I think you guys should be involved in this.

If nothing else we can all try to contribute and I'll merge it all into one post.
Dear cousin choppitychop89, you were a good relative, though I hardly knew ye.

It's fine I got the gist of what you said and I agree that the anime and manga descriptions should be seperate and make any differences explicit.

    Here some manga triva.

Throughout the manga you can spot Ed and Al's teacher Izumi and her husband Sieg looking at a map or something in the train stations.

On the spine of the manga Hiromu Arakawa had put various characters that have died going to heaven. The only person to go to hell was Shou Tucker. Oddly enough even other villains have gone to heaven the homunculi Greed and Lust, Cornello, The Slicer Brothers, Barry the Chopper (the armor and the flesh) and the followers of Greed.

There are many references to Arakawa's first manga Stray Dog throughout Fullmetal Alchemist. The term Military Dog was used in Stray Dog which are artificially created beings. When Roy Mustang makes his speech about dogs in general the line, “No matter how badly you treat a dog they will never complain” is used to described the military dog in Stray Dog. There is also a brand of liquor called Stray Dog it’s label is a skull and crossbones.

It was said in interview with Arakawa that Barry the Chopper's wife was a beautiful person who looks a lot like Lust.

As a running gag every time one of the Elric brothers had transmuted a spear it was quick rendered useless, mainly by being cut. First when Ed was fighting the lion-like chimera second, when drawing the spear on Bradley and Al when he transmuted a spear to fight Lust.

When Ed and Al are on a train to see the Rockbells to get their bodies repaired. Lust can be seen reading a newspaper with the headline "Britsh Naval Commander Murder". There is a similar headline in the James Bond movie You Never Live Twice.

Fullmetal Alchemist (Hagane no Renkinjutsushi), aka FMA or Hagaren, is a manga series by Hiromu Arakawa. A anime series and movie sequel have also been adapted to the series.

    Plot:
Set in the early 20th century of a country called Amestris, in alternate world where Alchemy was developed rather than the technology we have today. In this world, alchemy is the science of transmuting matter into different matter through the use of something called a transmutation circle. Alchemy is slightly scientific, but for the most part, it is magical and fictional. Alchemists are people who use Alchemy. Talent alchemists can take a State Test and become a recognized State Alchemist and become a part of the military.

Edward Elric and his younger brother, Alphonse used to live in a rural village called Resembool, along with their childhood friend, Winry Rockbell. Their father was a talent alchemist, but left home when they brothers were young, causing a forever hatred to develop in young Edward's heart. Trisha Elric, the mother of the Elric brothers, raise the kids on her own, but unfortuneatly, dies from a illness a few years later, leaving the Elrics brothers as orphans. In an attempt or revive their mother, the boys study with a teacher called Izumi to learn alchemy.

They break the taboo of human transmutation and try to transmute their dead mother back to life. In the process, something goes wrong and Edward loses his left leg and Alphonse loses his entire body. In another desperate attempt to save his brother, Edward offers his right arm to 'the Gate' and fixes his brother's soul to a suit of armor.

After the incident, Edward is determined to undone the taboos they have broken, so his lost limbs are replaced with Automail, a kind of advanced metal prosthetic limb. Just before the Automail surgery, a State Alchemist by the name of Roy Mustang, arrives to find the failed human transmutation. He came in response to some letters the brothers had sent out when asking for information on their long-lost father. Roy then suggest that boys achieve their goals by becoming State Alchemists.

Edward sets to become a State Alchemist and use the military's resources to regain what he and his brother Alphonse had lost. They eventually learn of a mysterious stone called the Philosopher's Stone, and believe that it will restore their lost bodies. They set off in search of it, and soon become entangled in secrets and people who seek the mysterious stone too.

    >>sorry for the error, should be fixed now.<<
