hmm... I'm confused already and the game hasn't even started yet... I'll stay out of this game and just watch from the sidelines, It'd may be easier to understand th game by watching one 1st. *Shrugs*... that and it appears it migth be time consuming... and I need that time to play Persona 4... that and summer school lol.

I'm also wondering whether I have to time to dedicate to this. I'd rather not play, than join the game and never post. I reckon the game should start over a weekend, like the Survivor games, to really get the thing going. I suppose turns for people would put a stop to all the confused posting that we get in the Survivors.

if there really are just 5 to 10 players this game might not take to long...
it sounds pretty interesting, but in never did something like that before, so watching it might be a good option...

Actually, I think I'll sit this one out too. I frankly can't promise I'll be able to stay attuned to a game that is as long as a month or more (this isn't the summer...). This game requires either or both of the following to work well:
1) Players who are really active during the game, allowing the game to move quickly and with few hitches.
2) Players who can keep up a more flexible but longer commitment where people play their turns in the span of a few days as mort suggested.

I think that most of the regulars in this section know that we can't pull of #2 on the list when a week or 2 is our threshold for committing to any games here. Look at our history for mafia to support that.

As for #1, it is much harder to pull off with a large number of people. And by large I mean 7+ people.

Also, the 20 person goal is a stretch considering the max number of people we've had participate in a forum game lately is 16.

All those replies seem to think that I'll take the place of the gamemaster and will generate the game... I thought about this yesterday and I think I will take over the gamemaster's place... Since people would like to play either Fantasy or a Future RP, I thought of combining both... I will post you my concept soon and then we can talk about the rules and the necessary character abilities...

I generated a stansard dungeon and that already looks complicated... My idea would be a more open setting like a town but thank you for showing me this...

Yes, I think it will be more fun to have fantasy elements like Orks, Elfs and Dragons within. But I would like to combine that with Mafia too...

^I usually stay away from RPs because you have no idea who you're gonna end up posting with, and once it's started, you're committed until the end. Well, considering the gantz RP is on standby and i seem to have lost interest in posting on gantz, I guess i could do this.
Just one thing i'd like to add - if you target duration is three months, then a three days threshold could leave us in the absurd situation where we get only ten turns in 30 days. There has to be more rules (killing absent players, for example) set out from the start regarding what happens in the event someone does not post. The bigger the RP, the more unfair it is for remaining players if someone gets lazy on updating his post. We also need rules on editing, and adding to background history post-hoc, and so forth.

Wow, your third post outside of the Gantz sub. Seems you eager to play an RPG again...
I though about the three day turns. I think everyone can post as much as he wants in three days and I as the gamemaster will reply to their actions. At the end of the day all those actions will be summed up and transported into the next turn (aka thread). Everyone who didn't post anything will be judged through the dice and will either killed or lives on... Of course, people can send me PM's then they''re not active and I'll take other their characters in waiting positions and maybe use them as NPC'S (Non Player Character) during that time...
That we way wenot depend on lazy players (like Popo)...

Btw, I also think that some parts like the communication between members who want find out what role they're in, should be made by PM not openly, so the others don't find out...
In that case, the pm's will be read by only three people (Me and the ones who come up with the conpiracy talk)... But we can talk about that in the rules discussion...

I’m putting my weight behind a futuristic setting, as those generally offer a more compelling experience. (I’m not against a fantasy setting, but they usually get dull rather quickly.) But I’m okay with anything, really.

I think a future setting is more interesting and has more possibilities then a fantasy setting, too...
But of course we can play a fantasy RPG later after this one, with dungeons and stuff...

Considering this is the first time a lot of us, including me will be playing an RPG. This means that it's going to be a bloodbath.

What are we supposed to do with our character's history? Are we supposed to come up with a whole history, or just a few lines?

It depends on you how much you write on your characters sheet. Only 5 sentences are a novel, it's not that important. But you have to play your role and keep into that...

I imagine morten will change up the character sheets a bit (to better suit this RP’s setting), but from my understanding he wants them to be something like this, and they should be written with a great deal of care. Remember, the information you provide will determine what happens to you in the long run (in shaping your character's development and such).

Yes, it's not as complicated as it looks. You dn't need to write so much about your char...
We'll talk about the abilities a character needs when we discuss the rules for the game...

Whoa, this looks like a bit of an investment in time then. It also looks like it would have to run pretty damned slowly if you wanted to make sure that everyone was getting their turns and stuff.

As said you can PM me if you wanna time-out or if you wanna die because you don't have time anymore...

On Speed Issues: A merciless turn system can overcome that - next turn being set at a fixed 24 hour/48 hour/xx hour. Everyone who gets in will know about that rule, so it's not "unfair" on anyone if he "fails" to post within that time frame for any reason.
On Setting: I am for futuristic. More room to "make" our own world, even though i'd go cyberpunk, if i had any choice on the matter. If you wanna play a "fantasy-ish" char, vamp or elf, or whatnot, we can always chalk it off to genetic manipulation, or something

Seconded. I think I will brin in Fantasy characters that people can play too... Not just human but elfs, trolls, vampires and were-wolfes to make it more fun...

Give it a try. I will be merciful (in the beginning) and it will be a text rpg only. No big math or experience points collection...

Yes, we can discuss the rules in the next turn after I reveal my concept for the game and you accept it or not... I want all people who will participate to work on the rules too and maybe come up with new rules during the game if it's necessary... We can use this thread as OOPC (Out of play chat) then...

I think that with more people participating the game will be much faster. Some will maybe post three or four times a day and some others once in three days (or none). As lively the RPG is as better it will be and as more fun we'll have with it...
