Regarding the organization of the Misc. Series Forum
Hello. I usually hang around in the Misc. Series Forum and have been talking on threads there for the last four months or so. Over time, I've come to notice a few things and thought about how to make it better organized. This are just some thoughts and suggestions as to how to improve the Misc. Series Forum. Feel free to use, discard or ignore ideas as you see fit. :)
Currently, we have the following situation: There are 4 stickied threads on the Misc. Series Forum: A recruitment thread for Illimunati-Manga which gets about 1-2 posts per month, another thread about Jyuudaime winning something, and two threads about forum rules and moderation.
We also often have an average of 5 threads being started each day in the forum, which leads to very rapid losing of threads. A lot of these threads are of the form: "Please recommend good <insert genre here> manga". Furthermore, some series with large fanbases that do not have a dedicated forum tend to discuss the series in one or two threads. (Fruits Basket is a classic example). However, many newbies who visit the forum don't see these threads because they've been buried back into the third page due to the sheer number of new threads started. Hence, they start a new thread themselves, which usually gathers about 1 page of posts before someone redirects them to the large discussion thread. The 1-page thread is then left hanging around, cluttering the forum.
So, I propose the following solutions:
- Unsticky the Illuminati and Jyuudaime threads. Illuminati-Manga have their own forums now and enough members to start releasing scanlations. They no longer really have to depend on that stickied thread. Likewise, the Jyuudaime thread has no meaning now.
- Merge the two "Rules" stickied thread into one.
- Create a new stickied thread, which lists down all the major discussion threads for popular series, with links. An example is:

...and so on, and so forth. I estimate this will take about a days' worth of dedicated searching and posting by a mod who regulary hangs out in that forum.
- Create two more stickied threads with the following titles: Manga Recommendations for Action/Adventure, and Manga Recommendations for Romance/Comedy. Those are the two most commonly-asked requests. If we have stickied threads to deal with both kinds, that might cut down on the forum spam, and allow discussion threads to stay on the first page longer. (If you want to, I guess you can add more sticky threads for more genres. Maybe split romance and comedy, or add sports, etc.)
As I said, these are just suggestions, but I think it would be a good idea and make things a lot easier on everyone in the Misc. Series forum if they were put into effect. Any admin or mod over Misc. can do this, so it could even be a collaborative work if no one has the time to do it by himself.
