As I see it the more reactive model of modship is the only really reasonable way to go at the moment. Not that I think that a mod shouldn't be proactive, but we're a big forum with a lot of content.

If my basic arithmetic doesn't fail me, we have over forty subforums here at ST, and the internal count says that we have 46,322 active members. Naturally, we don't really have 46,322 active members, but I'd say that the true amount certainly is over one thousand members, or even more.

To moderate all these forums and all these members we have ten people. Naturally this forces the mods to be more reactive than proactive, as it is impossible for the mods to actually monitor all the content that's posted. In fact, I find it odd that the system works as well as it does with only ten mods. Guess we are just that efficient.

In any case, if we want a more proactive style of moderating, I would say that more mods should be needed to even out the workload. Personally I think that would be a good thing.

That's a ratio of 100 "active" members for every mod.
And among these 100, it's only maybe 20 who are very active. If at least 4 of these people would cooperate, there would be no problem at all.
    Sadly, you guys hardly do.

Then I guess the next question would be: what do you mean by "cooperate"? Is it just to not make trouble and obey the rules, or are you expecting the active members to be more proactive in helping to regulate themselves and reporting problems to the mods (i.e. sort of like a forum Neighbourhood Watch to supplement the police)? Or is there another expectation that I'm not aware of?

I don't think many members are aware that these are the expectations of the mods... perhaps that's what's causing the problem. Reactive-style moderating only works well if there's an actively-engaged population to support it by reporting problems. If the mods are expecting the members to report any problems to them, but they're not... and if the members are expecting the mods to spot any problems themselves and solve them beforehand, but they're not... we arrive at an impasse. Is there any way to communicate these expectations more clearly to the community?

^ I think it should be very expected. This is a community, where if there are any problems, the whole community cooperates. Also, these expectations are just rules and I think if you see a problem, you won't just leave it, you'd report it.

@Jyuu, I have sent pm's to you and Steal before (for other things) and at times gotten no response back.

I am not saying the mods are not doing there jobs. I just asking for more mods. We lost three of them (Mart,Vol and Kaom). This might mean that we are short staffed.

If this is truly a community, then the mods should answer to us as we answer to them.

As for this thread, I seem to remember that, Steal would practically make threads like this every six months.

So once again, I was just asking for help from you guys.

    Thanks.

    Henchy.

I got it the same day, I just didn't know what to say back so I said nothing. I didn't want to send a message saying "I've got nothing to say" either.

I mean, we do have a button to report a post to the mods. It is very easy to just do that. I have always felt that the mods here are mostly proactive but it cant hurt for users to be a little more liberal with the report option.

Just click the post number and pm it to a mod. That should suffice. Like this

    More Mods, please.

So then... Who's been getting all the reports whenever the triangular 'report post' button is clicked and submitted?

I have to agree with Dizzy. And this forum works because it has great members, who are in majority disciplined.
There are mods who are daily around and they are doing an awesome job. But what's about mods who only visit the forums only one time per week (if even).
They sure are great for becoming mods at a certain time, but I guess the most of them grew up and work/ have real lifes and such. I'm not asking to demod these, but it should be clarified how long a mod should be absent.
Again, it's thanks to honest members that it's still working in the located subs.
