Thread: Two Recommendations

Great site.

All I would consider changing is making it a full fledged community website with a news updates front page. Also, customizing the forums to make them look better and navigate better would be very beneficial in the long run.

The other recommendation is to release finished mangas in volumes. Maybe you've already done this and I've missed it. I'd like to see cover art for each volume as well when downloading and if you could get a team member to give a brief 1-2 sentence synopsis of each manga's plot that would be awesome.

Other than that this site has amazing potential to grow and spread a good message. Either people are going to spread the word that it's not cool to charge people money to sell fan translated manga in which they own zero rights to, or they will let this keep happening and then others will do the same thing Tazmo is doing and the snowball will roll out of control at some point.

I'm a graphic designer and if you guys want some one to make you a simple, effective website complete with a logo, let me know. I wouldn't mind making both the site and customizing the graphics on these forums for free as I agree with this site's message.

It would be easy to setup a community portal, but we don't have any news worth reading.

If we were to host volumes, we would need a huge HD put in our server ($45/m for 1TB of space), we seem to get a lot of requests for volumes, and I might do it since we have 2.3GB's free space on our drive right now. It would take a lot of time to get all the volumes added.

Cover art for each volume sounds pretty hard, we have no team members so someone from the community would need to do that if we did go that route.

I think setting up a community portal, even though you would only post minimal news, would help add to the community experience and would drawn in more users. I also believe it would open up this site for growth in different areas in the future. A community portal would allow you to hire more staff and get said staff to create new exciting things for this website. A website with so many great manga offerings has the potential to offer other things for fans over time that keep them interested and having fun. It would also help better establish your site as one to keep an eye on and hence, stick it better to sites like Tazmo's who profit off of fandom rather than embrace it. In other words: Why not step up and beat them at their own game, but do it in a way that helps the fans instead of ripping them off?

Summer is here. You could probably hire staff if you wanted. I'd even be willing to help.

Volumes though slow to be made, would be a great thing in the long run.

I'd love to see a logo on this forum and some custom colors as well. Presentation always has people coming back.

We are going to host volumes. I spent last night downloading over 4GB of volumes. We have no extra space though so I need to order an extra drive for $35/m so I can start uploading.

I don't know about staff, last time things did not work out when we had something like 20 people ask to join as uploaders and only two people did anything.

I know that good staff is hard to come by. It's probably a weed out process. Find the dedicated and drop those who can't keep up with their tasks. One thing that might draw in more staff or people that want to be serious about helping would be a spiffed up website, community portal or just customize these forums and add a logo.

Other than that - good luck. This site has a lot of potential and already has great offerings. You guys did the hard part and got the manga - now you just have to get some graphic design and start building yourselves up. Well, that's just my opinion and may not be the way you want to take things.

I like the idea of a web portal (although stuff to post might be hard to come by, or at least require several people to keep it updated), its an idea I presented a while ago where instead of having a list of the latest uploads on each download page, it would just be posted on the front page (maybe in the form of a blog if that makes any sense). The reason behind my idea back then was to put all the likns at the top of the page onto a different page so that people who came here for the forums wouldn't have to keep scrolling down all the time. This is relatively obsolete now.

Although its stalled a bit due to finals and other schoolwork, I am going to work with Csutibea and vphamv on skinning this forum.
