Thread: Suggestion: Provide upload button

The administrators of this forum do a great job and service for all of us in downloading, verifying, and posting great mange...but the posting of mange is usually 2-3 days later than when the manga file is first available. Of course, this is due to all the work that goes into searching the web for new files, queuing up to receive the files, and then verifying and posting them. May I suggest tapping into the power of your community and letting members upload newer files whenever they get them first. Have one central "submit to" function where they can upload files, and then let the administrators quality check the files, then post them. An improvement on this idea would also be to let members post to directories for a particular series--even allowing the creation of a new series.

i was about to sugest the same thing,

i like this website and i see the popular mangas are faster uploaded than the others,

but the not so popular once lag at 5-10 chapters behind so i would like such a function as well xD to stock up the missing chapters that some ppl (i at least think so) are searching all over the www

This has been sugested many times before, and has been rejected each time.
From what I understand, Kane likes to be in control of what is being uploaded (and I don't blame hime, who knows what would be uploaded if we allowed the users to do it). Another good reason, is that we only need one of each chapter uploaded.

This is a good idea but the problem is implementing it. We get all of our chapters from IRC so we must wait for our sources to update their bots and then we must download the chapters and then upload them. We do updates every other day on whatever manga we can find.

I realized long ago we are not going to be the fastest at releasing the manga that comes out, take for example the bleach and naruto series, there are other sites that might only focus on 5-10 manga series and as a result they can get things updated and monitor things for changes very quickly. Now we on the other hand have something like 735 manga series, with an additional 65 manga series sitting on FTP that I could add at any time and even at this very moment I am working on downloading new series. It’s hard for two people pseudorandom and I to get everything updated.

The problem with your idea is verifying that the files have not been tampered with; there are no missing files, and that kind of thing. It would almost be easier for me to just get the files on my own.

I’ve just thought of something while drafting this post and I’d like for the people reading this thread to let me know what I think (I might be posting a poll on this later) …

We setup a site similar to all these new file sharing sites and I have it locked down and recoded so that it can only be downloaded by StopTazmo members, and this is the place where members themselves could upload and link to the latest files if we are slow at updating a certain series for example. How does something like this sound?

I'm also against everyone having access on uploading files. This results more risks than benefits on the server. What would be best is to have teams. E.g., Have one person or two to monitor 10 titles or a certain number of titles. This shouldnt' be hard with the help of mangaupdates. They have a "My list" where you can monitor what chap your at and beside the title is the current available scanlated chapter. Then they can compile a list and notify you of the updates with links to the forums, irc, etc if you prefer it. Hence, control is still on your hands but you wouldn't need to check for updates. The task becomes just downloading.
