Thread: wget downloads disallowed?

Hello all (especially admins),
I noticed that recently (within the last few days I think, but I'm not sure exactly when the last time I downloaded from stoptazmo was), wget his been disallowed from downloading files. Or, perhaps, all programs except a certain selected few (like say, Mozilla, Firefox, Internet Explorer, etc) have been disallowed.

I have dialup, so downloading anything large is a slow and painful process, and to alleviate the pain somewhat, using a doanload manager helps immensely. What I do (or did, anyway) is login to stoptazmo, select a manga I wish to download, and save the list of zipfiles for each chapter. Then I set wget (which, in case anyone doesn't know, is a command-line tool for Linux that downloads files) to automatically start downloading the whole list, one file at a time.
Wget does not use excessive bandwidth (it can't, for me, since I've only got 56kbits/second to work with), but it keeps the downloads going continually so that I don't have to sit here all day slowly using my browser to download one file at a time, perhaps having to start over again every so often when I get disconnected (Wget can resume downloads, but Firefox's resume function doesn't seem to work for me).

I was just wondering, is there a particular reason why you have disallowed wget (or perhaps all except a selected few programs) from downloading from stoptazmo? For example, if some people have been abusing download managers?
I certainly understand your wanting to prevent people from abusing the site, but for me, a dialup user, it is almost impossible to download things with firefox or any other browser; to do so, I have to sit here all day and babysit the browser just to download a few chapters of a manga.

Anyway, I just wanted to bring this matter to your attention, so thank you for any consideration you are willing to give it, and while I'm here, thank you for providing this awesome website!
Until I discovered StopTazmo and some other similar websites, I had never before really read mangas at all, but now I can't get enough of them

You should not have ever been able to use wget to download files here, unless it was during the month or so when our anti-link protection was disabled. wget/download managers will remain blocked due to the abuse we have had to suffer due to the number of connections many people choose to use.

Hmmm... weird, I thought I had been downloading from here for more than a month, but I could be wrong. It was only fairly recently that I discovered the site.

Life would be so much simpler if people would act responsibly, instead of just always trying to get more for themselves. Sigh.

On the other hand, it's probably a lot easier just to wish for a high speed connection to fall into my lap tomorrow; that's much more likely to happen than people acting responsibly.

Good thing I'm such a wiley computer geek, or my dialup connection woulda killed me long ago

Uh, by the way, there's something you (and/or other admins, if such exist..? Forgive my ignorance, I am new here :-D) should know about a way past the block system [you might know it already, but just in case..] ; I tried sending you a PM, but it tells me I have to have 10 posts first before I can PM anybody, or something. No, you need 10 posts before you can PM anyone, we had no choice but to do this because of spammers.

You do not seem to be a premium member so that explains why you cannot download using your download manager. Premium members get to use a special URL to download via download managers.
