I swear I hate IRC and the mind site of IRC sites.
I went to the trouble of reading everything under this thread more or less and the bottom line is exactly what several people have already said. IRC is junk.
IMO, you might as well learn DOS and use that as your main OS if you're going to be fan of IRC. Oh, but that doesn't work because DOS isn't a GUI OS so you wouldn't be able to use IRC anyhow since IRC clients are GUI based. What's my point? Once you do log into a IRC site, it is the most disorganized piece of garbage I've ever seen as far as interfaces are concerned. Several of us don't have time to sort through all the garbage text just to find the right person to download the newest or for that matter archived chapters. In addition there is too much of a learning curve for IRC.
I'll give credit to the Manga-Rain and Inane sites out there anytime they want so long as it is on a http site or via their email. That's no problem. However for them to whine about people posting their work on http sites, that's just bull.
For one thing VIZ is known to go after IRC sites just as quickly as HTTP site. I saw this first hand back in 1997 to 1998 when they were starting to get the ball rolling for the American release of the DB and DBZ comic. So long as no one goes traitor, similar to what happened to the DB and DBZ sites that translated that comic, and turns the Bleach, Naruto, One Piece, and etc. sites in to Viz these communities is safe.
I just have one more thing to say to the Manga-Rain and Inane sites of the world: I have nothing but respect for the skill involved in doing what you do, but stop the crying or stop translating. No ones making you do this work and if you're so scared of getting caught by Viz, then stop. It won't be any big loss to the world if you stop.
To those who would profit or modify their work...
You're scum. Pure and simple. The manga they translate is free to you save having to pay for your internet connection.
In summary: I have respect for Inane and the Manga-Rain teams, but that respect only goes as far as their ability and willingness to do the work. Their thick-headedness about http sites posting their work is beyond stupid. Here's an idea, Inane, post the work you do as http links yourself.
Bloody IRC elitist.
Never pay for online anime/manga be it donations to a site or otherwise. They don't own the license. Doing so is the same as what Tazmo is doing.
