    Lightbulb catagorizing into genres

would it be possible to sort the manga series into their genre, like romance, adventure, fantasy, or...shoujo etc?
i think catagorising the manga series would make it easier for people to find the type of manga they would like to read.
So, the homepage would still be set out, with columns and lists, but instead they r sorted into catagories, like for example,

    [shoujo:] [another catagory]

    kare first love ...blah blah
    hot gimmick
    ...etc

A lot of manga in the site don't have their summaries. and i know writing out all the summaries would take a very long time, and i bet no one can be bothered to do that. so i think putting the manga into catagories would be a step closer to making it easier for people to find out wat manga they want to read.

about summaries, this argument has already been discussed in other threads and is still on his way of being discussed about who, how, and what to put in the summaries.

as for the cathegories, if i am not wrong i've already seen this question somewhere else... (maybe it's just my impression) anyway the problem is that for some mangas, you can't easily put them into one cathegory so you might end up mixing a manga with another.

you are right about how there would be more than one catagory for most mangas, but it would be helpful to organise them. perhaps subcatagories?
but, then again that might be confusing.
    o well.

I was just going to suggest Categorizing the series. (I didn't see the other thread that you are talking about, and don't care to spend 20 minutes searching for it) Even with the manga falling into more than one category, there is a 'main' category that it would fall under. For example some some series may be action, suspense, & romance all in one. But if action happens 9 out of 10 chapters, when suspense & romance happen much less, then that manga would fall into action. And this would not be a matter of having to read all the manga to figure out the genre, just compare what other sites list them as. (If it is a decent site, the first category will be the main genre by common sense)

About the synopsises. There are readers who are willing to write synopsises for you. I have been willing to & posted several in the 'reviews' sections and I am not the only one who has done this. (the problem is the reviews don't always stick because of an error - My SQL error) My suggestion for that is make a thread for Synopsis. Something that is easy for us to go to, post a synopsis for you. Make it clear in the beginning, that if certain rules are not followed when posting a synopsis, then it will not be used. Like minimum requirements. Only review first 3 chapters so no spoilers are given out. etc.

That's a bad idea... even if supposingly there wasn't any other thread about the topic, with that kind of approach of yours you wont go very far... i mean i'm not asking anybody to read a 20 page thread nor to spend 1 hour to check if what you are about to say has already been said but you can spend 5 min just checking the first page of the section you chose to post in and if you dont find the topic treated and want to be sure about it you can simply use the search function.
By doing that you just spent 5 min more and avoided pointless discussions like the one we are having at the moment.

I think you are missing my point...maybe i didnt explain myself correctly... when i talk about manga cathegories i am not thinking about only the content (action, romance, etc...)but more generaly at the target. In other words usualy when you talk about mangas you usualy divide them into: Shonen, Seinen, Shoujo, Hentai, Dojinshi etc...
And the point is that it's not simple to fit some mangas into just one of these cathegories (which are supposed to be the most basic and general cathegories).
Of course it's just "some" mangas, "why bother" would be natural to answer to it.

Having said this, i can add what i said before into another thread about the drawing style.
As maybe you might have noticed some of the mangas here are not mangas but manwhas (korean mangas), western comics.
So what about that cathegory? that is too a very general one but IMHO we will end drowned into cathegories and sub cathegories.

And if you are not even bothered to look for the thread i'll just link it for you

You know Karsphen, I am not some little kid or teeny bopper, or a noob to forums. I did actually take a couple of minutes to look, and did not find it. So your rudeness was totally unwarranted. When somebody is new to your forums, one would think you would be a little bit nicer about welcoming them. I was trying to offer helpful suggestions to make the site better. Apparently you didn't like them, so I won't offer my suggestions any longer, nor will I be back to these forums.

I actually took the time out to write many reviews for you guys in a way to try to give back for the free manga this site was providing, but I got an error nearly every time. It was very frustrating to take half an hour of my time, which I could have been doing other things to write a review only to have it NOT be posted. That is why I was in the forums in the first dang place, to see if something was being discussed about that. Anyway, thank you site admins for allowing me to dl your hosted manga for free in the past. I did appreciate it.

what if you had a voting section on each manga, where you would rate a manga and how they would fit in a catagory?

    for example:
    (action/adventure/romance rated out of 5)
    Naruto: 4/4/0

edit: looks liek the topic died long time ago, and i posted without looking ><
